Astilbe

Astilbe are reliable perennials for shady and semi-shady spots. They catch the eye with their deeply serrated leaves and fluffy flower spikes that brighten up even darker corners under trees during the summer months. They are very hardy and long-lived plants that are great for large-scale plantings. They sprout relatively late in the spring. That is why it is worth combining them in a flower bed with spring-flowering bulbs. While the Astilbe are just gathering strength, early flowers will safely fill the space around them. Take a look at how to grow tulips or how to grow daffodils and create a successively blooming flower bed. For successful growth, they primarily require sufficiently moist, nutrient-rich soil. Once they take root in such a place, you will have almost no work with them, and they will become an easy-care staple of your garden.

Astilbe Paul Gaarder, Loukykvět

Astilbe simplicifolia

Delicate decorative, long-lived shade-loving perennials with pinnate leaves and magnificent feathery inflorescences. They originate primarily from East Asia, but also from eastern North America. They look best in large-scale plantings. Due to relatively late sprouting, it is good to combine them with early-flowering bulbs. They last 4–10 days in a vase. We harvest as soon as half of the inflorescence is in bloom. They are very sensitive to ethylene released from ripening fruit. Cultivar Paul Gaarder blooms wine-red.
