Ligustrum vulgare

Privet is a nectar-producing woody plant suitable for shaped hedges. It tolerates polluted air and shade. Its black fruits are not edible, although they are attractive and harmless to birds. In our country, it grows naturally in light mixed forests and scrub. It avoids only soils that are too dry. The height of the Lodense cultivar ranges from half a meter to one meter. It is dense and grows moderately fast.

Ligustrum vulgare

Common privet is an absolute classic for creating hedges, both strictly shaped ones and free-growing natural screens. This native European shrub is exceptionally adaptable and hardy, easily handling even severe frosts in our conditions, and in milder winters it often retains a portion of its dark green leaves. In June, it will delight you with panicles of tiny creamy white flowers that smell intensely and are literally a magnet for bees and butterflies. In autumn, they then turn into black glossy berries, which although not edible for humans, represent important food for birds in winter, which is where its name comes from. You can use both flowering twigs and later those with fruits in bouquets, which last a very long time in a vase and form an interesting structural element. It is an ideal choice for beginners who want to quickly create a green barrier or an undemanding shrub layer in the garden.
