Vernonie

A perennial originally from North American damp meadows and swamps. It forms firm, sturdy clumps. It is perfectly suited for planting with tall wild perennials and ornamental grasses. Its late emergence is an advantage in combined plantings, for example with daffodils, as it effectively hides the yellowing leaves of fading bulbs. It also blooms later, making it a sought-after source of food for bees during a period not usually rich in flowers. The individual flowers are not particularly large, but they are arranged in massive inflorescences.
