Hyssopus officinalis

Hyssop is an aromatic subshrub that closely resembles the popular Lavender in its structure and use. Its original homeland is the sunny and rocky slopes of Southern Europe and the Mediterranean. For this reason, it will thrive best in your garden in direct sun and in well-drained, sandy, or loamy soil, where it can easily handle drier periods. It survives our winters without difficulty, being frost-hardy down to minus twenty-three degrees. An already grown seedling in a pot will arrive at your home, which you simply need to transplant directly into the flowerbed. There, it will quickly form a compact small bush reaching a height of around fifty centimeters. It fits perfectly into gravel beds of a steppe character and forms a beautiful undergrowth for roses. From July to September, it is covered in tiny blue-purple flowers, which act as a huge attraction for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It does not suffer from diseases or pests, so even complete beginners can easily handle it; moreover, it reliably self-seeds in a suitable place. The whole plant smells pleasant, and its edible leaves and flowers find use in the kitchen. It is also excellent for cutting into fresh summer bouquets.
