Allium

Ornamental Allium acts as a striking architectural element in the garden. Its spherical or star-shaped inflorescences on sturdy stems rise naturally above other plants, adding an airy touch to your flower beds. You can choose from many heights and colors, ranging from snow-white and pink to deep purple or unique shades of blue. Most varieties originate from sunny steppes, so they handle drier soil and full sun very well. That is why they pair perfectly with ornamental grasses, herbs, and low-maintenance perennials. Depending on the variety, they bloom from late spring to summer, helping to bridge the gap between early bulbs and the main summer season. For successful growth, simply plant the bulbs in well-drained soil during the autumn. The flowers look beautiful in a vase for a long time, whether fresh or dried, and we at Loukykvět love adding them to our summer bouquets.

Allium atropurpureum, Loukykvět

Allium atropurpureum

Purple garlic, known by its Latin name Allium atropurpureum, originally traveled to us from the sunny regions of the Balkans. At first glance, it attracts attention with its exceptionally dark, deep burgundy color, which acts as a perfect contrast to lighter perennials and ornamental grasses in the garden. During May and June, striking semi-spherical inflorescences composed of tiny star-shaped florets bloom on sturdy stems growing sixty to ninety centimeters tall. They look beautiful, give off a pleasant scent, and attract bees, bumblebees, and other pollinators from a distance. After flowering, the plant gradually retreats into the ground, so it is ideal to combine it with species that will inconspicuously fill its space over the summer. The flowers also stand out in summer bouquets, where they stay fresh for a number of days. You can also dry them or leave them in the flower bed through the winter, as the snow-covered silhouettes create a magical sight. In addition, the flowers are edible and make a great garnish for dishes.

Allium giganteum, Loukykvět

Allium giganteum

Allium giganteum, or *Allium giganteum* in Latin, is an unmissable perennial that acts as a perfect architectural element in the flower bed. You simply need to plant the bulb in the soil in autumn. In spring, grey-green aromatic leaves sprout from it, and during May and June, huge spherical inflorescences appear on firm stems one to one and a half meters tall. These globes glow in shades of purple, pink, and lilac and naturally draw everyone's gaze. In the garden, ornamental garlic perfectly complements mixed perennial flower beds. It looks great when peeking through ornamental grasses, which also mercifully cover its leaves. It is a great magnet for bees and butterflies. The flowers can also be used at home in spring bouquets, and a huge advantage is that they are even edible. After flowering, the central structures retain their shape, making them great to dry for winter decorations or to leave in the bed, where they create a wonderful sight when covered in snow.

Allium Globemaster, Loukykvět

Allium giganteum

An impressive large-flowered garlic with a huge lilac-purple inflorescence, it will give your garden an airy feel and an interesting architectural element. The Globemaster cultivar grows to a height of about eighty to one hundred centimeters and, at the end of spring, bears noticeably round flowers on straight stems that are composed of thousands of tiny florets. We send our customers the largest, most mature bulbs directly. Simply place them in the ground in autumn and in spring they will reward you with truly rich and massive blooms. It is a plant that is excellent even for complete beginners because it does not require complex care or support against the wind. It handles even harsher frosts well and, in a suitable sunny location, reliably shows itself in full force every season. In the garden, this garlic benefits most from being planted in smaller or larger groups scattered among other sun-loving perennials. Given that its long leaves begin to gradually retreat and yellow during flowering, it is smart to plant lower shrubs or perennials with rich foliage in front of it. Fragrant purple flowers attract a lot of pollinators to the garden and liven up the space just when early spring bulbs are slowly fading and summer perennials are just waking up. Globemaster is also a great choice for creating bouquets, as the stems do not contain the typical strong aroma and stay fresh for quite a long time in a vase. The entire flowers and young parts of the plant are surprisingly edible and can be used to garnish dishes in an original way. After flowering, you get firm seed heads that you can easily dry for autumn and winter decorations.

Allium caeruleum, Loukykvět

Allium caeruleum

Azure garlic catches the eye at first glance with its pure sky-blue flowers, which have a very unique effect in a summer garden. It comes from the vast steppes north of the Caspian Sea, which gives it natural resilience. From the supplied bulbs, dense spherical inflorescences about four centimeters in diameter will grow on stems forty to sixty centimeters tall in June and July. Its fragrant flowers are a literal magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. In the garden, this edible species works well in gravel and steppe plantings. It pairs perfectly with shorter ornamental grasses and sun-loving perennials, to which it adds an interesting color contrast. Florists like to use this garlic in summer bouquets because it stays fresh in a vase for a lovely fourteen days. In addition, the spherical heads are easy to dry for dried arrangements, where they retain their eye-catching shape for a long time.
