Avens

Avens are among the most popular spring perennials, bringing a flood of warm colors to flower beds after a long winter. Their delicate, bowl-shaped flowers appear on slender stems above low clumps of green leaves. In nature, we often find these plants on the edges of light forests, along streams, or in damp meadows. That is why they will feel best in your garden in a sunny or semi-shaded spot. They appreciate well-drained, loamy soil—the kind that retains plenty of moisture but does not remain permanently waterlogged. Avens is a grateful and very adaptable plant that will bring joy even to beginner gardeners. From Loukykvět, you will receive well-rooted seedlings that are simple to plant. They look great in groups or combined with other spring flowers.

Geum Mai Tai, Loukykvět

Geum rivale

Avens Mai Tai is a charming spring perennial that brings a romantic touch to the garden with its adorable cup-shaped flowers. The original species often grows near streams and in moister meadows, so it will easily settle in our gardens in sun or partial shade, where well-drained, loamy, and slightly humous soil will suit it best. You will receive a rooted seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant into the flowerbed. Avens forms nice basal clumps of green leaves, which over time function as an excellent ground cover. Its growth is reliable and its care is downright undemanding, because the plant is not bothered by pests or diseases and withstands frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees. It stands out best when you plant it in smaller groups about thirty centimeters apart. From May to July, richly branched stems bearing semi-double flowers with gently ruffled petals appear above the foliage. The Mai Tai cultivar, which was bred in the USA in 2005, is characterized by its amazing color variability. It blooms in peach tones with a pink tint and gradually transitions into more muted pastel, salmon, and apricot shades. Blooming avens is a huge attraction for insects, especially for butterflies. We cut the stems for a vase when roughly a quarter to half of the flowers on the stem are open. They will stay beautiful in water for approximately seven days and add lightness and movement to an arrangement. However, its flowers are not suitable for drying. Although it is more of a short-lived perennial, it will bring you a lot of joy in the flowerbed with its rich flowers and undemanding nature.

Geum

Avens Smokey Peach is a magical spring perennial that brings warm pastel tones to the garden starting in May. In nature, these plants grow on the edges of light forests and moister meadows, which is why a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-drained and loamy soil suits them. You will receive a well-rooted seedling in a pot from us, which just needs to be transplanted. The leaves grow in dense clumps, forming a nice ground cover and offering an interesting winter effect. Any beginner can handle its cultivation. The perennial does not need support, does not suffer from diseases or pests, and easily survives even severe frosts. Moreover, the cup-shaped little flowers act as a magnet for pollinators. With its height of around fifty centimeters, it is suitable for the edges of flower beds. Avens are popular for fresh bouquets. Harvest them partially open; they will last a week in water. The flowers are not suitable for drying.

Geum Lemon Drops, Loukykvět
New

Geum

Avens Lemon Drops is a smaller perennial that will win you over with its delicate flowers in a lemon-yellow shade. The original avens species are often found in moister meadows and forest edges, so in the garden, too, it will appreciate humous and well-drained soil that does not dry out completely. This variety forms low, compact clumps of fresh green leaves that remain attractive for most of the year and can persist even under snow in milder winters. In May and June, tiny, semi-double flowers hover above the leaves, looking very airy and elegant. The plant is a great choice for edging flowerbeds or for rockeries, where its fine texture stands out. The flowers are also suitable for cutting into smaller spring bouquets, to which they add playfulness and lightness. Although it is a rather short-lived perennial, it is fully frost-resistant and its cultivation can be handled even by a complete beginner. In addition, you will please beneficial insects, because the flowers reliably attract bees and other pollinators.
