Toadflax

Toadflax brings an incredible sense of lightness and movement to any flowerbed. You can easily spot these low-maintenance perennials by their slender, upright stems that carry a multitude of small flowers. Even though they look very delicate and fragile, they are actually tough plants that withstand the wind without any issues and don't need any support at all.

They originally come from the warmer regions of the Mediterranean, which is reflected in their needs. They thrive best in full sun and prefer poorer, well-drained soil. They handle the occasional dry spell excellently and fit perfectly into gravel beds or drier, natural-style plantings.

They start blooming around mid-summer and often keep flowering until autumn. They form airy clumps that nicely weave through the space between lower perennials or ornamental grasses. Plus, their flowers reliably attract bees and butterflies, ensuring there will always be life buzzing around your garden.

Linaria purpurea

Linaria purpurea is a tireless perennial that will brighten up the garden with its purple flower spikes from July to October. It is native to the Mediterranean, thanks to which it perfectly tolerates drought and poorer soils, provided they are well-drained. It forms airy clumps that are suitable for natural-style plantings or gravel beds, where they contrast beautifully with ornamental grasses. Even though individual plants live for only a few years, they reliably maintain themselves through self-seeding, so you do not have to worry about them too much. Toadflax is also very valuable for bees and bumblebees, which visit it abundantly. Thanks to its strong and long stems, it is perfect for cutting and stays fresh in a vase for up to two weeks.
