Macleaya microcarpa
Plume poppy is an impressive solitary perennial. It captivates with blue-green, large lobed leaves that resemble fig leaves. In summer, it blooms with fluffy panicles of flowers. These change color from cream to pink. Finally, the plant is adorned with terracotta to burgundy colored seeds. Before using in a vase, we briefly sear the ends of the stems and leaves (about 20 seconds) and immediately cool them in water. This extends their life in a bouquet to 10 days.
