Rudbeckia occidentalis
Rudbeckia 'Green Wizard' is an exceptionally unusual perennial that catches the eye at first glance with its completely different appearance. It comes from the sunny plains of North America, where it grows as a robust and long-lived plant. For growing it at home here, full sun and normal loamy or even heavier clay soil are ideal. You will receive a mature seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant into a flower bed, where it will reliably grow up to one and a half meters tall. The 'Green Wizard' cultivar is unique in that it lacks classic petals. From August to October, only striking green bracts appear around a prominent, chocolate-brown central cone. You will appreciate this unconventional look in mixed perennial beds or prairie plantings together with tall grasses. The flowers reliably attract pollinators from the wide surroundings. We cut it for the vase right after blooming, and it will bring joy for seven to ten days. The distinct central cones are perfect for drying for winter arrangements. Furthermore, if left in the flower bed, they will create an engaging spectacle under the snow. Caring for it is easy; it does not suffer from diseases and easily handles frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees.
