Stokes' Aster

Stoke's asters are unconventional perennials originally native to the bright pine forests of the southeastern United States. They attract attention with their striking, fringed flowers, which appear on the plants throughout the summer and draw in a multitude of pollinators. In our gardens, they thrive best in a warm, sunny spot with well-drained soil. They don't do well with winter dampness, so good drainage is key. In a flower bed, they make a perfect complement to other drought-tolerant perennials or ornamental grasses. If you have heavy, damp soil, you can easily grow Stoke's asters in larger containers instead. This gives you a lovely, low-maintenance flowering plant for your terrace, which you can simply move under cover for the winter to protect it from excess moisture.

Stokes' aster Peachie's Pick, Loukykvět

Stokesia laevis

Stokesia originates from the southeastern part of North America, where it naturally grows in light pine forests on well-drained soils. In our conditions, it will thrive in a sunny, warm spot and in the company of drought-loving perennials. Growing in containers could also be an advantage, as we can better protect them from excessive moisture in winter. The large, striking flowers resemble cornflowers and are suitable for cutting. This blue-flowered cultivar is named after its discoverer.
