Gaura

Gaura is a low-maintenance perennial that brings lightness and movement to any flower bed. Its delicate flowers, perched on thin stems, resemble tiny butterflies constantly hovering in the breeze. It blooms profusely and tirelessly from the beginning of summer until the first autumn frosts.

It originally comes from the sunny and hot plains of North America. Thanks to this, it handles drought well and thrives best in full sun. It loves well-drained, sandy, and nutrient-poor soil. Conversely, it suffers in heavy, waterlogged soil.

In our climate, it acts more as a short-lived perennial, but it readily self-seeds in drier spots. It looks excellent in mixed perennial plantings and creates a very natural effect when combined with ornamental grasses. Furthermore, the flowers attract a host of beneficial pollinators to the garden.

Gaura lindheimeri

Gaura Siskiyou Pink is a charming perennial that brings lightness and airiness to the garden. Its original native area is in the warm regions of Texas and Louisiana, which is why it thrives in full sun and well-drained sandy soil. It grows in clumps and from June until the autumn frosts produces tiny raspberry-pink flowers that resemble fluttering butterflies. An interesting detail of this variety is the green leaves with a bronze tint and red spots. It is an absolutely undemanding plant, does not suffer from diseases or pests, and even beginners can handle its care. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you simply need to transplant directly into the flowerbed. Here it complements ornamental grasses perfectly and acts as an attraction for bees and bumblebees. Although it grows more as a short-lived perennial in our climate, in a suitable place it reliably self-seeds. Occasional pinching will encourage richer branching. Gaura is excellent for summer bouquets. We cut the stems for a vase as soon as the first two to three little flowers open.

Gaura lindheimeri

Gaura is a charming clumping perennial whose original homeland is the sunny plains of Texas and Louisiana. In the garden, it will appreciate exactly the conditions it is used to from nature, i.e., full sun and well-draining, even poorer and sandy soil. From the seedling you receive, a sturdy clump will grow, reaching a height of around eighty centimeters. It is one of the very low-maintenance plants for beginners, completely avoiding diseases and pests. Although it behaves more like a short-lived perennial here, it readily self-seeds in a suitable location. The tiny flowers, colored in pure white and light pink shades, resemble little butterflies and bloom tirelessly from June until October. It gives flowerbeds an extraordinary lightness and airiness, making it beautiful to combine with ornamental grasses. During the long months of flowering, gaura is constantly surrounded by bees, for which it represents a rich source of food. The flowers are excellent for cutting into summer bouquets. We harvest the stems for vases as soon as the first two to three flowers on the stem open. Conversely, the plant is not suitable for drying. The Rosy Jane variety catches the eye with pure white petals with a distinct raspberry border.

Gaura lindheimeri

The 'Sparkle White' Gaura is a charming, clump-forming perennial whose flowers resemble a flock of tiny white butterflies perched on slender stems. It originally comes from the hot and dry regions of Texas and Louisiana, which is why it loves full sun and well-drained, sandy soil. Although it behaves more like a short-lived plant in gardens, it more than compensates for this with its ability to self-seed on site and its untiring blooming from July until the first autumn frosts. Thanks to its airy growth, it adds lightness and elegant movement to perennial beds as the stems gently sway in the wind. It combines wonderfully with ornamental grasses or as a softening element among more robust plants. It is also a rewarding forage for bees and other pollinators. The 'Sparkle White' variety boasts pure white flowers that will stand out in any natural planting as well as in a vase. For bouquets, we cut the stems when the first two to three blossoms are opening, so that they bring us joy at home for as long as possible and add an airy style to the arrangement.
