Verbena

Verbena is a fantastic helper for softening up garden plantings. Its sturdy yet very airy stems with tiny flowers create a delicate veil through which light can filter. It works perfectly in mixed perennial beds, where it nicely complements ornamental grasses, roses, or more robust perennials. Furthermore, it is a huge magnet for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Most verbenas require a sunny spot and well-drained soil.\n\nAlthough many popular varieties originate from warmer regions and we often grow them as annuals, they can easily survive the winter during mild seasons. They readily propagate by self-seeding, so they will stay in your garden for many years. A special case is lemon verbena, which we grow in containers for its refreshing fragrance and use in teas. Thanks to their long blooming period, verbenas will decorate your garden from summer until late autumn.
