Foeniculum vulgare
Common fennel is an impressive aromatic perennial that will bring an unrepeatable veil effect to the garden. It originally comes from the Mediterranean, where it grows in sunny places. Therefore, even here it prefers full sun and well-draining loamy soil. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you simply transplant into the garden bed sixty centimeters apart. It grows to a height of over a meter and is grown for its finely divided leaves in green shades, and it does not form bulbs. In summer, yellow-green umbels appear, acting as a magnet for bees and other pollinators. The whole plant smells of anise, and its leaves and flowers are edible. It handles strong frosts without difficulty, does not suffer from diseases or pests, and any beginner can manage its care. In a suitable place, it reliably self-seeds. It pairs excellently with ornamental grasses, the flowers last seven to ten days in a vase, and the mature umbels can be dried for winter decorations.
