Garden parsley is not just an ordinary herb for soup, but a surprisingly versatile and hardy perennial that deserves a place in every garden. Its home is the sunny Mediterranean region, so it will thrive in your garden in full sun in loamy, humus-rich soil with regular watering. It can grow in a classic garden bed or in a spacious planter on the terrace. A great advantage is its frost resistance down to minus twenty-three degrees and complete resistance to common diseases and pests. Even beginner gardeners need not worry about growing it. The aromatic green parsley leaves contain high amounts of vitamins A and C and have an absolutely indispensable place in the kitchen. In the bed, however, it also works great as a companion plant. You can plant it with a spacing of forty centimeters among roses, whose fragrance it is said to naturally support, or combine it with other vegetables; it does particularly well alongside radishes. In the first half of summer, during June and July, the plant creates discreet but charming umbels of tiny white flowers. These grow to a height of about thirty to fifty centimeters and have a very natural appearance in the garden. The flowering stems can easily be cut for a vase, where they act as excellent filler greenery that reliably lasts about a week. After flowering, the firm stems can also be used for drying in various floral arrangements.
