Millet

Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) is a perennial ornamental grass native to North American prairies. It serves as a fantastic architectural element in the garden. It provides perennial beds with clear shape and volume without appearing heavy. On the contrary, once the delicate, veil-like panicles appear at the end of summer, they beautifully soften and lighten the entire planting.

These grasses are very adaptable, long-lived, and low-maintenance. They tolerate dry conditions and full sun well, making them suitable for spots where other plants might struggle. Furthermore, they change their appearance throughout the season. From fresh green or bluish tones during the summer, they shift to warm brown, burgundy, or golden shades in the autumn.

Even in the winter months, the clumps remain sturdy and decorate the garden, especially when covered in frost. We therefore recommend cutting back switchgrass only in early spring, before it begins to sprout again. Thanks to its upright growth, it combines excellently with flowering perennials and brings natural movement to the garden every time the wind blows.
