Cottongrass

The white fluff resembling scattered cotton is a sign that you are looking at common cottongrass. Its original home is in northern wetlands, where it became accustomed to poor soil and a constant supply of water. If you provide it with a sunny spot in the garden with permanently wet soil, it will reward you with trouble-free growth. Beginners will appreciate that this is an exceptionally hardy perennial. It does not suffer from pests or diseases and can survive temperatures dropping to minus forty degrees. You will receive a healthy seedling that just needs to be planted directly into the bog zone, with a recommended spacing of thirty to forty-five centimeters. Stems up to sixty centimeters tall grow from the clumps of narrow leaves. After inconspicuous spring flowering, bright white fluffy heads form on them. In natural gardens, this element beautifully enlivens the greenery of other species. It is invaluable for florists. Stems with cotton-like heads last a long time in a vase and add airiness to a bouquet. They are also excellent for dried arrangements, as the fluff does not shed and retains its pure white color.
