Papaver nudicaule

The Champagne Bubbles series of poppies are perennials. For us, a great and affordable alternative to Icelandic poppies! Poppy Champagne Bubbles Scarlet blooms in red-orange shades of scarlet. If we were to compare the Colibri and Champagne Bubbles series, the first difference is that Colibri are annuals. But the advantages of the Champagne Bubbles series don't end there – they are also more financially accessible than the Italian Colibri version, have better germination, and the seeds are even pre-treated for improved germination. We also expect them not to be out of stock as often, as they are not bred in Italy, meaning communication and delivery times won't be as 'Italian'. Now for the disadvantages: compared to Colibri, they don't have such large flowers, the stems are less robust, and some color variations are missing. But all in all, this still makes them a great poppy!

Papaver rhoeas

Delicate silky white petals and a yellow center. It lives up to its name literally! We have been growing poppies since the first days of Loukykvět, and this year we are returning to them again. Poppies require more care as cut flowers and do not last as long in a vase. But! They are so beautiful that it's still worth it. Here's our guide for poppies. We harvest freshly burst buds. It's enough to see a crack in the bud and the color within. A poppy has only a few petals, so it takes a moment for it to open. We trim the ends fresh and blanch them in hot water (just boil the water and use it immediately), or singe the ends with a flame. Heat helps the poppy open its water absorption channels and prevents wilting. In bouquets, we arrange freshly opened blooms or buds, knowing that the poppy will open during the day. If you plan to sow poppies just for enjoyment in the flowerbed, none of this is necessary, of course :)
