Foxglove

Foxgloves are striking focal points for both country and modern gardens. Originally native plants, they naturally grow in damp meadows, forest clearings, and bright woodland edges. Because of their origins, they thrive in both partial shade and sunny spots, provided they have access to ordinary, slightly moist loamy soil. Most of them grow as biennials or short-lived perennials. In the first year, they form a basal rosette of leaves, and only in the following season do tall stems emerge, studded with dozens of bell-shaped flowers. These bloom gradually from the bottom up, attracting plenty of pollinators. Furthermore, in flowerbeds, they serve as an excellent source of cut flowers for spring and summer bouquets. In a suitable habitat, they often persist for many years because they self-seed very readily. If you want to propagate them from your own seeds or those bought from us, our guide on how to sow will help you. For us, they are essential plants that add vertical structure and a natural look to every corner of the garden.
