Globe thistle

Globe Thistle is an unmissable perennial that catches the eye at first glance with its architectural form and perfectly spherical flowers. Originally from warmer regions, it absolutely thrives in sunny and dry spots. It performs best in well-drained, even poorer sandy soil where other plants might struggle. It is an ideal choice for low-maintenance flower beds, adding height and interesting structure. Its sturdy stems carry thistle-like flower heads that can be steel blue or pure white. Besides attracting pollinators to your garden, the Globe Thistle is also very popular for cut flower bouquets and autumn arrangements. If you want to dry it, we recommend harvesting the stems before they are in full bloom. This way, the flower heads will retain their shape and color and won't fall apart after drying.

Echinops bannaticus

The 'Blue Glow' globe thistle is an impressive perennial that naturally grows in the region from southern Europe to Turkey and Central Asia. Thanks to its origin, it loves the sun and well-drained, even poorer sandy soils, where it thrives best. In the garden, it captivates with its architectural structure and silvery gray-green leaves, which form an interesting contrast to other plants. The spherical flowers in a royal blue shade are literally a magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, so with this plant, you will bring a lot of life into the garden. It is a long-lived and undemanding plant that does not need support and easily handles even harsher frosts. It is also very valuable for florists. It lasts very long in a vase, and its blue spherical flowers look wonderful in summer bouquets. If you don't harvest them fresh, they are perfect for drying for winter decorations, or left in the flowerbed, they form a beautiful winter effect, especially when covered in hoarfrost. The 'Blue Glow' cultivar stands out precisely for its intense flower color.

Echinops ritro

The blue globe thistle originates from Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans, where it naturally inhabits sunny and dry hillsides. Thanks to its origin, it is an exceptionally resilient and undemanding perennial that literally revels in poorer, well-drained, and sandy soils. If you have a place in your garden where other plants fail due to drought and a lack of nutrients, the globe thistle will be absolutely happy there. It forms upright clumps of silvery-green leaves, above which striking spherical flowers tower from July to September. The steel-blue flower heads reach a diameter of 2 to 4 cm and are literally a magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. In the garden, it acts as a prominent architectural element, even in winter, when the frosted spheres look magical under a dusting of snow. The globe thistle is also indispensable for florists. It lasts very long in a vase and looks wonderful in summer bouquets. If you want to dry the flowers for winter decorations, harvest them before the tiny florets fully open so they retain their firm structure and color.
