Delphinium hybrida

The larkspur cultivar Benary’s Pacific Cameliard will bring vertical dynamics and bright blue color to your flowerbeds. The original botanical species of larkspurs originate from mountain valleys and moister grassy plains, from which stems their love for nutritious, well-drained, and moderately moist loamy soil. In a sunny location, it will reward you with rapid growth and strong stems that commonly grow to a height of one and a half meters. We will send you home a beautifully rooted seedling in a pot, ready for immediate planting. We recommend maintaining a spacing of sixty centimeters; the plants need freer space around them to ventilate well and not suffer from powdery mildew. Larkspurs belong among perennials that require a bit more attention, and therefore, they are appreciated more by advanced gardeners. During growth and blooming, they need to be watered regularly and occasionally fertilized so that they have the strength to form large inflorescences. In spring, it is necessary to protect the young green leaves from slugs and snails. The plant is fully frost-resistant and will survive winter with temperatures down to minus thirty-four degrees without any protection, but keep in mind that it is entirely poisonous. The blue flowers appear in June and, after a summer break, if you cut the plant back after the first blooming, again at the end of August and in September. During blooming, the larkspur is swarmed by bees and functions as a perfect dominant feature behind shorter perennials. You can use it for cutting into tall summer bouquets. It will stay beautiful in a vase for a whole week, you just must not place it near a bowl of fruit. Ethylene released from apples or bananas causes the flowers to drop. If you like creating dried arrangements, definitely dry the larkspur; its petals will reliably retain their deep blue shade throughout the winter.

Delphinium hybrida

The dominant feature of every rustic flower bed and modern garden, that is exactly the larkspur Benary’s Pacific Mix. We typically know it from traditional plantings, where it usually grows next to shrub roses and peonies to add majestic height to the space. For successful growth, it needs full sun and nutritious loamy soil with plenty of moisture, as it is not a drought-tolerant plant. Once it takes root well, it grows to a height of one hundred to one hundred and fifty centimeters, so we recommend planting individual plants at a distance of sixty centimeters apart. You can support its vitality by regular fertilizing, thanks to which its stems will be firm and hold the weight of the flowers more easily. The Mix stands out with an exceptionally attractive color palette, and already in June you will see petals in shades of purple, blue, pink, and pure white. It is an absolute feast for the eyes as well as for bees and bumblebees, who will immediately discover the flower bed. The larkspur is ideal for intermediate growers, occasionally requiring attention due to susceptibility to powdery mildew, and in the spring you must carefully guard the freshly sprouting shoots against slugs and snails. However, it will make up for all the care with its immense winter hardiness, tolerating frosts down to minus thirty-four degrees. Even though it is radiantly beautiful, always remember its toxicity. It enjoys immense popularity among florists. You can cut the strong, tall stems for larger summer arrangements; they will keep their freshness for about seven days. Since it does not tolerate ethylene from fruit well, place the vase out of reach of ripening fruits. If you cut the flower in the bed promptly and lightly after the first bloom, it will willingly bloom for you again in August and September. It also directly lends itself to drying; its small flowers retain their bright, rich colors for a very long time and can beautifully enliven dried floral arrangements.

Delphinium hybrida

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Guinevere is an absolute classic and at the same time an unmissable dominant feature among border perennials. On strong stems reaching heights of one hundred to one hundred and fifty centimeters, it bears striking racemes of flowers in beautiful shades of purple and blue. It thrives best in full sun in well-drained, loamy, and very nutrient-rich humous soil. To show its full beauty, it is necessary to provide it with enough moisture, space, and not forget regular fertilizing throughout the season. It is a plant suitable for intermediate growers, but its spectacular appearance and natural elegance are definitely worth that little bit of care in the flowerbed. You will receive from us a mature seedling in a pot, which you just need to transplant directly into the garden, ideally with a spacing around sixty centimeters. Very often we see it in flowerbeds in the company of roses and peonies, with which it forms a perfectly balanced and traditional country composition. During blooming in June and subsequently in August and September, it represents a huge attraction for bees, bumblebees, and other beneficial pollinators. This perennial is very frost-resistant and playfully handles even harsher winters with temperatures falling to minus thirty-four degrees. When growing, it is good to watch out for slugs and, in the case of wetter weather, also for powdery mildew. All parts of the plant are poisonous, which is good to keep in mind when choosing a suitable location near children or animals. You will fully enjoy the beauty of this larkspur not only in the garden but also in summer bouquets, to which it adds unusual height and structure. The flowers are absolutely great for cutting and will stay fresh for about seven days in a vase. Just make sure you do not have them near ripening fruit, as they are very sensitive to the releasing ethylene. If you like to create winter decorations, you can also try drying the whole stems for floristic purposes. The flowers, even after careful drying, surprisingly well retain their rich purple-blue color and are guaranteed to enliven any dried arrangement or wreath.
