Persicaria

This species of knotweed originates from the Himalayas and China, where it grows in scrub and on mountain meadows along streams at high altitudes. It forms sturdy clumps of fresh green, pointed leaves. Above them, upright, narrow, candle-like inflorescences composed of individual tiny flowers appear from summer onwards. It is a very popular perennial, recently bred into many cultivars and used in Western Europe in larger park and garden landscaping. It excels with a long flowering period in late summer and good durability in a vase. It was voted Perennial of the Season 2023 by the Czech Perennials Association. The Fat Domino cultivar was bred in Belgium and has dark red flowers.

Persicaria 'JS Misty Morning' brings an unmistakable lightness and the romantic atmosphere of late summer to the flower beds. The original species comes from the moist mountain meadows of the Himalayas, which predestines its requirements even in the garden. It loves humous, loamy, and non-drying soils in full sun or partial shade, where it can create a dense, closed stand through which almost no weed can grow. This robust and long-lived perennial grows to a height of around one meter and is particularly valuable for its incredibly long flowering period, which lasts from July until the first frosts. The spike-like inflorescences of the 'JS Misty Morning' cultivar have a delicate, light pink hue, which in a mass planting looks like morning mist over a meadow. The plant is literally a magnet for bees and other pollinators. Thanks to its sturdy stems, which do not break and do not need support, this persicaria is also perfectly suited for cutting into a vase, where it stays fresh for several days and adds volume and an airy structure to bouquets.
