Hypericum perforatum
The golden-yellow flood of flowers of St. John's wort inherently belongs to the Czech summer and the rural landscape. This undemanding perennial naturally inhabits sunny hillsides, balks, and drier meadows, making it an ideal candidate for gardens with minimal watering and care requirements. It grows up to 70 cm tall and forms upright, richly branched clumps that are literally covered in tiny, radiant flowers with conspicuous stamens in midsummer. It is an excellent choice for beginner growers, as it will forgive even poorer and well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. In addition to its ornamental value, St. John's wort is a significant honey-bearing plant that will attract useful pollinators to the garden. It also applies great in floristry; it stays fresh in a vase making you happy for several days, but even more often it is dried for winter decorations and medicinal tea blends.
