Snowflake

The summer snowflake is a wild perennial native to Western, Central, and Southern Europe. It is much taller than the spring snowflake and blooms later. Its flowers are more slender, and the leaves remain green for a long time. It is also suitable for planting in containers and pots, provided the soil does not dry out. It combines beautifully with bleeding hearts, for example.

The spring snowflake is a native woodland perennial. It grows naturally in moist mixed and floodplain forests and is a protected species. It thrives in the moist environment of stream and river banks. In such settings, it spreads well on its own into large colonies. The leaves appear together with the flowers, and the plants die back relatively soon after finishing blooming. The drooping bell-shaped flowers grow singly, or rarely in pairs. It propagates best by dividing clumps immediately after flowering.
