Beard grass

Beard grass is a prairie grass originally from North America. In the garden, it adapts well to various moisture conditions. Its color variability is interesting. It sprouts in shades of gray-green, changes to purple-brown shades during the season, and remains attractive in shape and color even through winter. The unusually shaped and striking inflorescences are perfectly usable in fresh and dried bouquets.

The native home of this species is the dry regions of North America, where it has adapted to full sun and poorer sandy soils. It will therefore thrive in warmer and well-drained locations. The 'Yellow Konza' cultivar forms dense clumps up to 180 centimeters tall and represents a very reliable, long-lived perennial. It is undeterred by drought or frost dropping to minus thirty-four degrees, and it reliably avoids pests and diseases. During late summer, beige inflorescences appear above the gray-green leaves, swaying in every breeze. In ornamental plantings, it forms a beautiful backdrop for colorful autumn flowers and softens the overall look of the garden. Its golden inflorescences can be cut for a vase, where they last a long time, and they are also perfect dried for floral purposes. Moreover, uncut stems in the flower bed hold their shape beautifully, creating an eye-catching winter feature even under snow.
