Původní domovinou tohoto druhu jsou suché oblasti Severní Ameriky, kde si zvykl na plné slunce a chudší písčité půdy. Prospívat proto bude na teplejších a dobře odvodněných místech. Kultivar Yellow Konza vytváří husté trsy vysoké až sto osmdesát centimetrů a představuje velmi spolehlivou dlouhověkou trvalku. Nezdolá ji sucho, mráz klesající k minus čtyřiatřiceti stupňům a spolehlivě se jí vyhýbají škůdci i nemoci. Během pozdního léta se nad šedozelenými listy objevují béžová květenství, která se vlní v každém vánku. V okrasných výsadbách tvoří krásné pozadí pro barevné podzimní květiny a zjemňuje celkový vzhled zahrady. Její zlatavá květenství se dají řezat do vázy, kde dlouho vydrží, a perfektní jsou také usušená pro floristické účely. Neostříhaná stébla na záhonu navíc krásně drží tvar a vytvářejí poutavý zimní prvek i pod sněhem.

Vousatice Yellow Konza (Andropogon hallii) je mimořádně nenáročná prérijní tráva, kterou snadno zvládne pěstovat i úplný začátečník. Jelikož pochází ze suchých oblastí Severní Ameriky, potřebuje pro svůj zdravý růst teplé a plně slunné stanoviště. Dodanou sazenici vysaďte do písčité a dobře propustné půdy, protože v těžkých a přemokřených zeminách by se jí nedařilo. Výsadbu můžete provádět od jara do časného podzimu. Rostlina vytváří mohutné trsy vysoké až 180 centimetrů, proto jí dopřejte dostatek prostoru. Ideální spon, tedy vzdálenost mezi jednotlivými rostlinami, je 60 až 80 centimetrů, což odpovídá výsadbě jednoho až tří kusů na metr čtvereční. Tento rozestup zajistí výbornou cirkulaci vzduchu, ačkoliv je tento druh přirozeně zcela odolný vůči všem chorobám i škůdcům.
Po výsadbě je nutné sazenici pravidelně zalévat, aby si vytvořila silný kořenový systém. Jakmile ale dobře zakoření, stává se z ní dlouhověká trvalka, která výborně zvládá i dlouhodobé sucho. Hnojení není vůbec potřeba, spíše naopak. V chudší půdě si zachovává pevná stébla, zatímco v přehnojené by mohla polehávat. Pokud zvažujete pěstování v nádobách na terase, je to skvělá volba, stačí dodržet několik pravidel:

- Zálivku v nádobě provádějte častěji než na záhonu, ale vždy nechte vrchní vrstvu půdy nejprve proschnout.
Během pozdního léta a podzimu vás rostlina potěší zlatavě béžovými květenstvími, která jsou ideální k řezu do vázy i k sušení. S příchodem zimy stébla nestříhejte, ale nechte je stát na záhonu. Pevná struktura listů vytváří nádherný zimní efekt i pod vrstvou sněhu, a navíc přirozeně chrání střed rostliny před zimní vlhkostí. Vousatice je extrémně mrazuvzdorná, bez problémů snese teploty klesající až k -34 °C (zóna 4a), takže nepotřebuje žádnou zimní ochranu.
