Cornflower Tall Double Blue Boy
The blue cornflower is an absolute classic of our fields and meadows, which probably needs no lengthy introduction. However, the 'Tall Double Blue Boy' variety brings something extra. Compared to its wild relatives that we see along roads, it boasts rich flowers in an unmistakable, deep blue shade, sometimes with a purple tone. You can hardly imagine anything more meadow-like. Thanks to its strong stems growing up to eighty centimeters tall, this annual is perfectly suited for cutting, adding true rustic charm to bouquets. But its use doesn't end in the vase. The flowers keep their fantastic color even after drying!
At weddings, we loved using them in flower crowns and corsages, where they have excellent stamina!
The petals are edible. They serve perfectly as an original garnish for summer salads, desserts, or festive cakes. Moreover, in the garden, it functions as a reliable magnet for bees and bumblebees, who simply go crazy for its nectar.

Chrpa modrá 'Tall Double Blue Boy' je klasická otužilá letnička, která si přímo libuje v chladnějším počasí. I když je teoreticky možné ji předpěstovat, nejlepší výsledky jednoznačně přináší přímý výsev na trvalé stanoviště. Rostliny totiž tvoří kůlový kořen a velmi špatně snášejí narušení kořenového balu při přesazování. Pokud byste se přece jen rozhodli pro předpěstování, je nutné začít 3–4 týdny před výsadbou, použít sadbovač s velkými buňkami a při manipulaci být extrémně opatrní. Mnohem jednodušší a jistější je však počkat na brzké jaro. S výsevem ven můžete začít, jakmile půda rozmrzne a dá se s ní pracovat, což u nás bývá často už v průběhu března. Chrpy klíčí při teplotách kolem 16–20 °C, ale snesou i chladnější jarní start.
Chrpy jsou také skvělou volbou pro podzimní výsev (srpen–září). Rostlinky do zimy vytvoří přízemní růžici, bez problémů přezimují a na jaře vás odmění dřívějším a mnohem mohutnějším kvetením než ty seté až po zimě.

Semena vysévejte do řádků do hloubky přibližně 0,5 cm a zahrňte substrátem, nenechávejte je na povrchu. Půdu udržujte rovnoměrně vlhkou, klíčení obvykle trvá 5–10 dní. Protože tato odrůda dorůstá úctyhodné výšky 60–80 cm, je naprosto klíčové rostliny po vzejití vyjednotit na vzdálenost 15–20 cm. Pokud necháte výsev příliš hustý, rostliny budou slabé, náchylnější k houbovým chorobám (zejména padlí) a nebudou tvořit tolik květů. Nebojte se tedy protrhávat, jakmile se objeví první pravé lístky. Pro postupné kvetení doporučujeme provést 2–3 výsevy v rozestupu několika týdnů, dokud panuje chladnější jarní počasí.

While common cosmos mainly offer a white and deep pink palette, 'Apricotta' brings a completely new and fresh color tone to the flowerbeds.
