Calendula officinalis
For Nigella, we recommend direct sowing straight into the bed. Sow outdoors as soon as the ground thaws and can be worked. At our farm, this is as early as March. Sow on the surface and cover only lightly with soil; it needs light to germinate. Keep moist and once the plants have their first true leaves, you can thin them out.
Nigella likes low temperatures; in spring you can manage 2-3 sowings 2-3 weeks apart, after that it becomes too hot for it. Another option is to sow in autumn; Nigella overwinters and blooms that much earlier in spring.
The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.
