Carthamus tinctorius
Safflower is a cut flower you must have! We tried it for the first time this year and it is a great piece. The stems are firm, thick, and woody. They grow beautifully straight, wonderful for binding. Safflower can also be used unbloomed in the form of buds, like neutral green thistles. The flowers are prickly, but the stems and leaves are not, so it doesn't bother you when cleaning material and binding. Well, one could talk about Safflower for a long time, simply a perfect piece. 'Zanzibar' is an orange variegated variant.
For drying, we harvest colored buds. Just hang them upside down in a dry and ventilated place, away from sunlight.
