Aster

Asters are among the most rewarding cut flowers we grow. They offer a huge range of shapes and colors, from soft powdery shades to rich tones. You can find varieties with fluffy full blooms as well as those with elegant, needle-like petals. The advantage of many annual asters is that they bloom while we are still waiting for the greatest autumn beauties. They serve perfectly in flower beds and vases as a beautiful precursor or complement, especially if you already know how to grow dahlias. What's more, some popular types of asters look very similar to them with their muted tones. Whether you are looking for smaller flowers as a filler or impressive dominant blooms for larger arrangements, asters won't disappoint. Just give them a sunny spot and harvest them regularly, which will directly encourage the production of more buds.

Aster novi-belgii Fellowship, Loukykvět

Aster novi-belgii

It originates from the northeastern USA and southern Canada, where it grows in damp areas, scrublands, and on coasts. It crosses very willingly with other aster species, resulting in an inexhaustible number of varieties. Unlike New England asters, they do not close their flowers at night or during unfavorable weather, making them perfect for cutting into vases. We must keep in mind their susceptibility to mildew, which can be prevented by choosing a suitable location. They last 7 to 10 days in a vase. Fellowship is large-flowered, profusely blooming, and of taller growth. The pink-colored flowers with yellow centers have a diameter of up to 3 cm.

White Wood Aster Eastern Star, Loukykvět

Aster divaricatus

The Eastern Star White wood aster is a reliable perennial originating from North American forest clearings and forest edges. It thrives best in partial shade to shade, where it will appreciate ordinary well-draining and loamy soil. It is perfect for planting under mature trees because it deals surprisingly well with the competition from their roots. You will receive an already grown seedling in a pot from us, ready to be transplanted. It soon forms dense clumps of fresh green leaves and dark wiry stems. Despite its dense growth, it looks delicate and airy. During August and September, it blooms with a flood of white flowers with fewer petals, which bring light into shady corners and reliably attract bees. It is an exceptionally resilient plant for beginners that does not suffer from diseases and survives even harsh frosts dropping to minus twenty-eight degrees. It serves excellently for cutting into fresh bouquets as well as for drying for floristry purposes. Furthermore, when left in the garden bed, it offers a beautiful winter effect.

Aster Harrington’s Pink, Loukykvět

Aster novae-angliae

A classic perennial of Czech gardens, although originally from North America. In nature, it grows in thickets among taller plants and naturally loses leaves on the lower part of the stem very early. Its bred cultivars also retain this characteristic. Therefore, we combine it in beds with suitable perennials that cover the lower parts well. The whole plant is roughly hairy. It is a hardy and long-lived perennial and resists powdery mildew well. Harrington’s Pink is a variety found in the wild; it has 2.5 to 3.5 cm large flowers of bright pink color with a yellow center. It belongs to the later-flowering varieties. It lasts 7 to 10 days in a vase.

Italian Aster, Loukykvět

Aster pilosus

The hairy aster is a true queen of late summer and autumn, blooming at a time when most other perennials are already going into winter dormancy. This originally North American beauty is characterized by its rich branching and a flood of tiny white flowers with yellow centers, which change color to purple over time. Thanks to its height of around 120 centimeters, it creates an airy effect in flower beds and literal clouds of flowers that stand out perfectly in natural or prairie-style plantings. Its species name refers to the fine hairs that cover its stems and leaves. For bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, it represents one of the last and very important sources of nectar before the arrival of winter. It is an exceptionally resilient and low-maintenance perennial that can handle even drier and poorer soils in full sun. Frost resistance down to -34 °C makes it a reliable part of the garden for many years. Moreover, its sturdy, woody stems are perfectly suited for cutting into autumn bouquets, where they stay fresh for a long time and add volume and lightness to arrangements.

Aster Rosa Erfüllung, Loukykvět
New

Aster amellus

The Italian aster 'Rosa Erfüllung' is exactly the perennial that will add fresh colors to your garden at a time when most summer flowers are already slowly fading. Its original homeland is the sunny and dry slopes or steppes of central and southern Europe, making it an extremely resilient plant. Therefore, in our gardens, it simply needs a spot in direct sun with well-drained, even poorer sandy soil. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which just needs to be transplanted straight into the flower bed. Here it will root very quickly and form a vigorous clump. It is a long-lived plant that even complete beginners can handle, because it does not suffer from diseases or pests and easily survives frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees. The 'Rosa Erfüllung' cultivar grows to a height of around half a meter and produces a flood of light pink flowers from August to October. These flowers not only brighten up autumn beds, but are also edible and reliably attract bees, bumblebees, and butterflies from the wide surroundings. The sturdy stems do not need any support and are excellent for cutting into a vase. In mixed bouquets, they bring a fine texture and stay fresh for about a week. Although it is not suitable for drying in winter arrangements, fresh bouquets from it bring joy to every interior. In the flower bed, it looks great in group plantings; we recommend planting roughly seven to nine plants per square meter. It fits perfectly into prairie and gravel beds, where it naturally complements lower ornamental grasses.
