Edelweiss is a hardy perennial native to the dry, rocky slopes of the distant Himalayas. Its rugged mountain origin has made it an adaptable plant that can handle both summer drought and hard frosts in your garden. It thrives best in full sun in well-drained, sandy soil. It is not suitable for shady corners with heavy, wet soil. It catches the eye at first glance with its grey-silver foliage, which beautifully complements colourful neighbours in perennial beds. In summer, it adds small white flowers shaped like little buttons. These resemble well-known strawflowers and are excellent for drying for winter arrangements. Thanks to its low requirements, edelweiss is a great choice for rock gardens, dry stone walls, and modern gravel beds. Once it is established in the right spot, it requires almost no care and grows reliably even where other plants would struggle.
