Sneezeweed

Sneezeweed brings the warm shades of late summer and autumn into the garden. This reliable perennial comes from the moist meadows and light woodlands of North America. Its flowers resemble little suns in tones of yellow, orange, red, and copper. It forms lush clumps in flower beds, blooming when many other plants have already finished for the season.

For successful growing, sneezeweed needs a sunny spot and plenty of moisture. They thrive best in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil that doesn't dry out too much during the summer. Beyond brightening up any garden, they also make excellent cut flowers. In a vase, their colorful blooms will bring you joy for up to fourteen days.

Helenium hoopesii

Helenium hoopesii reliably brightens every corner of the garden with its golden flowers, which resemble small, radiant suns five centimeters in diameter. It is precisely this shape that gave it its scientific name, Helenium. It originates from the wet meadows of North America, which suggests that it will grow best in a sunny location in slightly moist, loamy to humus-rich soil. You will receive a fully rooted plant in a pot from us, which you can plant directly into your chosen spot in the flower bed. It is a completely low-maintenance and long-lived perennial that grows in clumps up to about one meter tall and needs no support at all. In the garden, it easily withstands frosts well below thirty degrees; you just need to watch out for slugs in the spring, as they love to feast on the young shoots. During May and throughout the summer, you will find plenty of bees and other pollinators on its delicately rayed flowers, for whom it is a valuable source of food. It fits perfectly into natural and cottage gardens, where we recommend planting it about half a meter apart. Moreover, the golden stems are perfect for cutting. While not suitable for dried arrangements, they will last beautifully in fresh bouquets for up to fourteen days in a vase. Although it attracts insects, the entire plant is poisonous to humans, so it is best not to eat it.

Helenium

Sneezeweed Septembergold will reliably brighten up any garden when summer slowly hands over its scepter to autumn. The original species of this long-lived perennial come from the moister meadow growths and forest edges of North America. For successful cultivation, therefore, it will appreciate a sunny spot with well-drained, loamy, and highly humous soil that retains adequate moisture. It is an exceptionally frost-resistant plant that effortlessly endures even harsh winters, so you don't have to worry about it even in colder regions. The massive clumps with dark green leaves grow up to around one meter tall and do not need any support. From July to September, floods of flowers open on sturdy stems. The Septembergold variety stands out with a magnificent golden-yellow shade that brings a warm atmosphere to the beds. These flowers are literally a magnet for bees, bumblebees, and other pollinators. Although the plant does not suffer from diseases, watch out for slugs and snails in the spring when sprouting, as they might feast on the young shoots. Please note that the entire plant is poisonous and not intended for consumption. In the garden, sneezeweed applies perfectly in mixed perennial beds combined with ornamental grasses or autumn asters. Ideally plant three to four pieces per square meter with spacings of forty to fifty centimeters so they soon form a dense canopy. It is also excellent for cutting into summer and autumn bouquets. It will stay fresh in a vase for a long time and bring a piece of solar energy right into your home. It is not suitable for drying for floral purposes.
