Záplevák Septembergold spolehlivě rozzáří každou zahradu v době, kdy léto pomalu předává žezlo podzimu. Původní druhy této dlouhověké trvalky pocházejí z vlhčích lučních porostů a okrajů lesů Severní Ameriky. Pro úspěšné pěstování proto ocení slunné stanoviště s propustnou, hlinitou a dobře humózní půdou, která si udrží přiměřenou vlhkost. Jde o mimořádně mrazuvzdornou rostlinu, která bez problémů snese i drsné zimy, takže se o ni nemusíte bát ani v chladnějších oblastech. Mohutné trsy s tmavě zelenými listy dorůstají do výšky kolem jednoho metru a nepotřebují žádnou oporu. Od července až do září se na pevných stoncích otevírají záplavy květů. Odrůda Septembergold vyniká nádherným zlatavě žlutým odstínem, který do záhonů vnese hřejivou atmosféru. Tyto květy jsou doslova magnetem pro včely, čmeláky a další opylovače. Ačkoliv rostlina netrpí chorobami, na jaře při rašení si dejte pozor na slimáky a plzáky, kteří by si na mladých výhonech mohli pochutnat. Upozorňujeme, že celá rostlina je jedovatá a není určena ke konzumaci. V zahradě se záplevák perfektně uplatní ve smíšených trvalkových záhonech v kombinaci s okrasnými travinami nebo podzimními astrami. Vysazujte ideálně tři až čtyři kusy na metr čtvereční s rozestupy čtyřicet až padesát centimetrů, aby brzy vytvořily zapojený porost. Výborně se hodí i k řezu do letních a podzimních kytic. Ve váze vydrží dlouho svěží a přinese kousek sluneční energie přímo do vašeho domova. K sušení se pro floristické účely nehodí.

Pro úspěšný růst vyberte plně slunné místo, kde se rostlině bude dařit nejlépe a vybarví se do sytých zlatavých odstínů. Půda by měla být ideálně hlinitá, propustná a bohatá na humus. Záplevák ocení mírně vlhké prostředí, proto do vykopané jamky před výsadbou přidejte trochu dobře vyzrálého kompostu, který pomůže zadržet potřebnou vláhu. Rostliny vysazujte na vzdálenost 40 až 50 centimetrů od sebe. Na jeden metr čtvereční se skvěle hodí tři až čtyři kusy, díky čemuž se porost krásně zapojí a vytvoří hustý trs dorůstající výšky kolem jednoho metru. Navzdory své výšce mají pevné stonky, takže nevyžadují žádnou oporu. Během vegetační sezóny je péče o tuto dlouhověkou trvalku velmi nenáročná, a proto je ideální i pro úplné začátečníky. Pravidelná zálivka je důležitá především v sušších letních měsících, aby půda zůstala přiměřeně vlhká. Rostlina naštěstí netrpí žádnými chorobami, jediné nebezpečí hrozí brzy na jaře při rašení mladých výhonů. V tomto období si dejte velký pozor na slimáky a plzáky, kteří by si na nich rádi pochutnali. Doba kvetení trvá od července do září, a pokud budete průběžně odstraňovat odkvetlé květy, podpoříte tvorbu nových poupat a prodloužíte si tak kvetoucí podívanou. Při manipulaci s rostlinou pamatujte, že je jedovatá a v žádném případě není určena ke konzumaci. S blížící se zimou se nemusíte obávat o její přežití. Záplevák je extrémně mrazuvzdorný, bez potíží snese teploty klesající až k -34 °C. Na podzim začne nadzemní část rostliny postupně odumírat. Suché stonky můžete ponechat na záhoně přes zimu a seříznout je těsně nad zemí až brzy na jaře, než začnou rašit nové výhony. Tím zajistíte, že rostlina nabere dostatek síly pro další sezónu. Jednou za tři až čtyři roky na jaře trs opatrně vykopejte, rozdělte a přesaďte, čímž ho zmladíte a podpoříte jeho dlouhověkost. Často se ptáte, zda je možné pěstovat tuto rostlinu také v nádobách nebo prostorných truhlících na terase. Vzhledem k její mohutnosti a výšce přesahující osmdesát centimetrů to teoreticky možné je, ale držte se několika důležitých pravidel. Vyberte dostatečně velký a hluboký květináč, který poskytne prostor pro kořenový systém a zabrání převrácení větrem. Na dno umístěte kvalitní drenážní vrstvu z keramzitu, aby kořeny nestály ve vodě. Při pěstování v omezeném prostoru rostlinu častěji zalévejte a pravidelně přihnojujte tekutým hnojivem na kvetoucí trvalky.

The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.
