Rose campion is a striking perennial that will bring a bold color contrast and a unique texture to the garden. It originally comes from the sunny and dry regions of southern Europe and Asia, where it grows on rocky and poor soils. Thanks to this, it is exceptionally undemanding and will handle even harsh frosts without problems here. It forms clumps with silver, softly felted stems and gray-green leaves that look decorative even before blooming. During June and July, vibrant fuchsia-pink to purple flowers appear on the stems. Rose campion blooms for a very long time, as a new little flower blooms every day and replaces the previous one. It is a short-lived perennial, but in a suitable location, it easily self-seeds. It does not suffer from any diseases or pests, which will be appreciated especially by beginner growers. It is perfectly suited for cutting into summer bouquets.

The cultivar Royal Wedding will reward you in May and June with huge bowl-shaped flowers with pure white petals, which hide a distinct dark burgundy spot in their center. Moreover, these enchanting flowers reliably attract pollinators from far and wide. It is typical for Oriental poppies that their strikingly fuzzy green leaves die back soon after flowering. The plant takes a break over the warmest summer to gather strength, and a smaller portion of the leaves often sprouts again only at the end of summer. Therefore, it is ideal to plant the poppy in the flower bed in close proximity to other perennials that sprout slightly later and naturally fill the empty space left by the resting poppy. It avoids diseases and needs no support, reaching a height of around sixty to eighty centimeters. Just watch out for field voles, which might develop a taste for its fleshy roots. Thanks to this procedure, they will stay beautiful for about four days in a vase and add amazing lightness to bouquets. Although these delicate flowers are not suitable for drying, they simply have no competition in fresh spring bouquets.

Kohoutek je na zálivku naprosto nenáročný a jakmile se sazenice po výsadbě na záhonu dobře uchytí, zvládne i dlouhá období sucha bez dodatečného zalévání. Hnojení není potřeba vůbec.
Při výsadbě dodržujte dostatečný spon přibližně 50 centimetrů, což odpovídá zhruba čtyřem rostlinám na metr čtvereční. Základem úspěchu je nepříliš hustá výsadba, protože v příliš konkurenčním prostředí vedle agresivnějších druhů kohoutek dlouho nevydrží. Větší prostor kolem sazenic navíc zajistí dobrou cirkulaci vzduchu. Během léta jistě oceníte, že tato trvalka netrpí na naprosto žádné choroby ani zahradní škůdce, takže se obejdete bez jakýchkoliv ochranných postřiků. Pokud chcete podpořit a prodloužit už tak štědrou dobu kvetení od června do července, můžete průběžně odstraňovat odkvetlé stonky. Na konci sezóny ale doporučujeme několik květů ponechat.
Kohoutek věncový je sice krátkověká trvalka, která v zahradě obvykle vydrží jen 2–3 roky, ale velmi dobře se sám přesévá. Pokud mu necháte prostor, postará se o svou pestrou přítomnost na mnoho dalších let. Na zimu nevyžaduje žádnou speciální péči, je to extrémně mrazuvzdorná rostlina, která bez problémů přežije i kruté mrazy až do -34 °C. Tuto rostlinu můžete poměrně úspěšně pěstovat také v nádobách nebo truhlících na slunných balkonech. Při pěstování v květináči nezapomeňte na velkorysou drenážní vrstvu z keramzitu na dně a použijte lehký, propustný substrát smíchaný s pískem, aby kořeny nestály ve vodě.
