Perennial Collection with Bulbs and Annual Seeds

Rich Colors for Peonies

Lupines, irises, columbines, and larkspurs – these are tried-and-true classics that never disappoint when paired with peonies. This time, we have something for lovers of deep, vibrant colors. This collection works beautifully on its own, but you can also pair it with large-flowered roses or combine it with other collections. When planning, count on an average of six to seven perennials per m², depending on your soil quality and your specific goals. In nutrient-rich and sufficiently moist soil, perennials will grow faster and spacing can be wider to start; in poorer conditions, it is better to plant more densely. The amount of time you can dedicate to garden maintenance will also be a deciding factor. You can work creatively with our collection and tailor it to your needs and your garden. In your cart, you can easily adjust plant quantities and choose appropriate species or cultivar substitutions. For example, if you already grow peonies and just need suitable perennial companions, you can simply keep only the perennials in your cart. During autumn shopping, you can take advantage of available bulbs and order the complete collection, including narcissi and alliums, which will ensure your bed is full of flowers throughout spring and summer. A big bonus is the selection of seeds. It consists of proven annual species that are easy to grow so that they bloom at the same time as the peonies. You can either direct-sow them directly into your perennial bed or grow them separately to harvest for bouquets. Show full description

Lady's mantle Irish Silk, Loukykvět

Alchemilla mollis

Alchemilla mollis, known as lady's mantle, is an indispensable perennial for anyone who wants to bring harmony and softness to the garden. Its home is the moister environments of mountain meadows and light forests, making it a very adaptable plant that will survive even severe frosts without problems in our climate. The 'Irish Silk' cultivar is prized for its vitality and abundant blooming, where clouds of tiny, yellow-green flowers float above clumps of gray-green leaves. It is precisely this neutral color that can work wonders in a flower bed – it softens overly sharp contrasts between other flowers and beautifully unifies the entire composition. Besides its ornamental function, lady's mantle also has practical uses. Thanks to its clumping growth and ability to quickly fill in, it is ideal for edging pathways or as an underplanting beneath taller shrubs and roses. Water droplets catch on its leaves, creating a magical spectacle in the garden. If you enjoy making bouquets, you will love lady's mantle as versatile filler greenery that matches almost anything. It will last beautiful for about ten days in a vase, and its inflorescences can also be easily dried without losing too much of their color or shape. Moreover, it is a magnet for pollinators, and its young leaves are even edible, so it also finds use in a natural kitchen.

Allium sphaerocephalon, Loukykvět

Allium sphaerocephalon

The round-headed garlic draws attention with its striking flowers, which form unmistakable dark purple and burgundy dots. It is a summer-blooming variety that reaches a height of about seventy to one hundred centimeters. Its egg-shaped inflorescences, three to five centimeters in size, are densely packed and appear from June to August. Its leaves resemble chives in shape, but it is typical for summer garlic that they begin to naturally yellow and wither during the blooming period. The deep color of the flowers stands out perfectly in mixed prairie plantings alongside delicate ornamental grasses. Furthermore, the dense inflorescences act as a magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. Anyone who creates home arrangements will love this plant. The firm, long stems are excellent for cutting into fresh bouquets, and the heads retain their shape and color after drying for use in dried arrangements. The entire plant is fully edible and completely resistant to common diseases.

Larkspur QIS Carmine, Loukykvět

Delphinium consolida

Larkspurs are spring beauties that nothing compares to. However, if you want to harvest them for cut flowers, you must be vigilant and harvest quickly before all the buds open. They finish blooming quickly, especially during the warm springs of recent years, so we sow several batches 14 days apart just to keep up with the harvest. Larkspur QIS White is a soft white that fits beautifully into wedding floristry. You harvest one stronger stem and 4-5 smaller side stems from a single plant.

Cranesbill Cambridge, Loukykvět

Geranium cantabrigiense

Cantabrigiense cranesbill Cambridge is an invaluable perennial that will reliably conjure up a dense and fragrant green carpet in the garden. It naturally originates from the crossing of mountain species coming from the Balkans and Southern Europe. Because of this, it is exceptionally tough and adaptable. It thrives best in full sun or partial shade, where it is perfectly happy with standard well-draining loamy soil. It is a low-maintenance plant that handles summer droughts and severe frosts wonderfully. From the received potted seedling, a compact cushion growing to a height of thirty centimeters will soon grow after transplanting. It will serve as a versatile groundcover perennial. From May to July, striking purple-pink flowers on upright stems emerge from the aromatic foliage. The garden will come alive thanks to them, as they reliably attract bees and butterflies. The flowers are also great for cutting into summer bouquets, where they beautifully complement other species. The Cambridge variety will also delight you with a beautiful autumn transformation. With the arrival of cold days, the green leaves change to impressive red tones. It does not suffer from pests or diseases, and caring for it is a joy even for beginners.

Catmint Walker’s Low, Loukykvět

Nepeta racemosa

Catmints are ideal companions for roses, suitable for naturalistic gardens, and lower species also for boxes and pots. Some of them are an irresistible attraction for cats, caused by the hallucinogen nepetalactone. This should be present in the highest amount in the species Nepeta cataria. Conversely, lemon-scented catmints reportedly do not attract cats. The botanical name Nepeta likely comes from the name of the ancient Etruscan city Nepet - Nepi in the territory of today's Italian province of Viterbo, where the plant was once cultivated. Nepeta racemosa naturally grows on dry meadows and rocky, stony slopes from the Caucasus to Central Asia. It has aromatic grey-green leaves and forms a tufted semi-spherical bush. Walker’s Low got its name after an Irish estate where it was bred in 1970. It has the most intense blue-violet flower coloration.

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Black Knight, Loukykvět

Delphinium hybrida

The majestic larkspur Benary’s Pacific Black Knight will bring original beauty and a striking vertical structure to your garden. In the wild, the original species of larkspurs grow in lush meadows with nutritious soil. Therefore, in the garden, it will reliably appreciate full sun and sufficiently moist, humous loam. Although it is a perennial for somewhat more advanced growers, with the right approach, it will reward you richly and will survive even extreme winters with temperatures deep below the freezing point without worry. We will deliver a beautifully rooted seedling in a pot, ready for immediate planting in the flowerbed. Do not forget to give it enough space, ideally with spacings around sixty centimeters, and throughout the season, do not forget regular fertilizing. A more airy space will naturally protect the plant from powdery mildew. It works excellently in mixed borders with peonies and roses, providing them with a beautiful dark background. The Black Knight variety stands out with long stems growing up to one hundred and fifty centimeters, which are gradually adorned with deep dark purple flowers from June onwards. These literally attract bees from a wide surrounding area. When growing, keep in mind that it is poisonous and very tasty to slugs in early spring. The firm flower stalks are absolutely ideal for fresh bouquets, where they will stay fresh for about seven days. However, do not place the vase next to ripening fruit, to whose ethylene larkspur is sensitive and would wilt faster. If you want to preserve its beauty longer, try drying it. The dark flowers retain their pigment excellently and will enliven absolutely any dried arrangement.

Allium Red Mohican, Loukykvět

Allium amethystinum

The Allium amethystinum cultivar known as Red Mohican brings original burgundy colors and playful shapes to garden beds. It forms tall, sturdy stems on which dark red inflorescences with a delicate fragrance bloom in early summer. You will receive a high-quality bulb ready for planting, so there is no tedious growing from seeds involved. The plant reaches approximately one meter in height and, thanks to its sturdy structure, stands easily without support. It fits perfectly into mixed country-style plantings, where it functions as a striking vertical element. The green leaves naturally die back with the arrival of summer, so it is good to combine this allium with plants that will quickly fill the empty space. The fragrant flowers are a great attraction for bees and bumblebees, and as a pleasant bonus, they are fully edible. This is an extremely hardy plant that easily handles even harsh frosts. The burgundy heads look beautiful in a vase and can be successfully dried to create long-lasting arrangements. Uncut flowers also decorate the garden with their silhouettes well into winter.

Woodland sage Schwellenburg, Loukykvět

Salvia nemorosa

This species of sage originates from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms profusely flowering small clumps with straight, upright stems. In flower beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, it is planted as a companion to roses due to the matching flowering time. However, it will look equally good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It is excellent pasture for bees. It lasts 7 days in a vase. 'Schwellenburg' is a very special variety with a richly branched inflorescence. The little flowers have purple bracts and a wine-colored calyx.

Campion, Loukykvět

Lychnis coronaria

Rose campion is a striking perennial that will bring a bold color contrast and a unique texture to the garden. It originally comes from the sunny and dry regions of southern Europe and Asia, where it grows on rocky and poor soils. Thanks to this, it is exceptionally undemanding and will handle even harsh frosts without problems here. It forms clumps with silver, softly felted stems and gray-green leaves that look decorative even before blooming. During June and July, vibrant fuchsia-pink to purple flowers appear on the stems. Rose campion blooms for a very long time, as a new little flower blooms every day and replaces the previous one. It is a short-lived perennial, but in a suitable location, it easily self-seeds. It does not suffer from any diseases or pests, which will be appreciated especially by beginner growers. It is perfectly suited for cutting into summer bouquets.

Betony Saharan Pink, Loukykvět

Betonica officinalis

Betony, or woundwort, is an ancient medicinal and magical protective plant. However, we also appreciate its charm in perennial beds. Apart from the pink dead-nettle-like flowers, its great advantage is its ability to spread over time into dense stands. The flowers are a source of nectar for bees and butterflies.

Cornflower Tall Double Red Boy, Loukykvět

Centaurea cyanus

Everyone knows classic field cornflowers, but the 'Tall Double Red Boy' variety brings a completely different spectacle to the garden. It is a very unusual shade of deep raspberry, which we fell in love with immediately after one plant accidentally bloomed among our blue cornflowers last year. The richly double flowers measure approximately four centimeters in diameter and grow on stems up to eighty centimeters tall. The silvery gray-green foliage gives the whole composition a delicate look that beautifully softens the surrounding planting. The raspberry cornflower stands out best in natural-looking flower beds, where it pairs perfectly with ornamental grasses, daisies, or white-flowering annuals. Throughout the summer, it serves as a plentiful feast for bees and bumblebees. Lovers of fresh arrangements love using it in colorful summer bouquets, where its unconventional color immediately catches everyone's eye. It works just as well for drying into dry decorations that will remind you of warm days even during the cold months. Moreover, it is a plant with edible flowers, which you can easily use to decorate festive cakes or summer drinks.

Feverfew Crown White, Loukykvět

Tanacetum parthenium

Bred feverfew, the inflorescence consists only of tubular florets, i.e., a center without ray florets or petals. Crown White is a commonly grown species in Holland and sells great at the flower exchange. It is therefore professional seed, but don't worry, we tested it and it can be grown both outdoors and in a polytunnel; both work perfectly. Crown White has slightly longer tubular flowers, giving a disheveled impression. The color is pure, bright white.

Our favorite foliage and filler. It grows beautifully and binds famously! The flowers are yellowish, so they don't color-match every bouquet, but we still never have enough of it! And after flowering, tiny seed pods form which are also beautifully decorative and don't wilt; we love collecting those too.

Red Valerian Pretty Betsy Red, Loukykvět

Centranthus ruber

The crimson red flowers of valerian will brighten up any sunny garden and reliably attract plenty of pollinators. This airy perennial has its origins in the Mediterranean region, where it decorates warm, sunny slopes and dry places. Thanks to this, it is completely undemanding, and in your garden, it will do best in full sun with well-drained, sandy, or loamy soil. The striking red shade of the 'Pretty Betsy Red' variety is complemented by gray-green leaves. Valerian holds one amazing record, as it offers the longest blooming period of all perennials. From early summer until early autumn, it constantly adorns itself with tiny edible florets clustered in convex panicles. Even complete beginners can easily manage its care. Pests and diseases avoid the plant, and it easily handles severe frosts. Even though it grows as a short-lived plant, it willingly self-seeds. In compositions, it looks excellent next to delicate grasses. Its blooming stems are a great attraction for bees and butterflies, and hummingbird hawk-moths often feast on them as well. Valerian flowers perfectly liven up summer bouquets. For the vase, cut the stems just before they unfurl or when freshly opened; they will last about a week at home.

Iris Metolius Blues, Loukykvět

Iris germanica

A historical classic that never gets old. That is how one could describe the iris, whose original homeland is the warm and sunny regions of the Mediterranean. As an exceptionally popular garden plant, it has been cultivated since the time of the Celts and has made its mark as a favored symbol in medieval heraldry. The 'Metolius Blues' variety stands out with gorgeously light blue flowers featuring white and yellowish beards in the throat, which open during May and June. The flowers have a pleasant fragrance and act as a magnet for pollinators from the wide surroundings. Thanks to a height of up to one meter and sturdy stems, this cultivar is perfectly made for cutting into a vase, where its flowers will bring you joy for about three to seven days. After unpacking, you can simply transplant the fully grown seedling in a pot, grown by us, straight into the garden. This long-lived perennial thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Peony Red Sarah Bernhardt, Loukykvět
New

Paeonia

Peonies are valuable in gardens for their large and impressive flowers. They are long-lived perennials for patient gardeners. It takes them several years to grow to full beauty and for you to see abundant flowering. Therefore, a blooming peony in the very first year after planting is more of an exception, certainly not the rule. Besides time, it needs the right conditions to flower. Check out our growing guide. Herbaceous garden peonies are one of the longest-bred garden plants, and most cultivars originate from Chinese and medicinal peonies, which have long been part of monastery gardens. Today, we combine them with perennials, grasses, and bulbs. However, we always give them plenty of space in the flowerbed. It might seem that Red Sarah Bernhardt is simply a red variant of its pink-flowering namesake. In reality, these two peonies do not have much in common, and the red shade is closer to fuchsia tones. Red Sarah Bernhardt is simply a bit of a mystery; we only know that it was registered in 1980 in China. Its flowers are double and fragrant. Potted peonies can be planted from spring to autumn.

Columbine Black Barlow, Loukykvět

Aquilegia vulgaris

The common columbine is a popular and versatile perennial that inherently belongs in both rustic and modern gardens. In the wild, it grows on forest edges and clearings throughout Europe, so a sunny or partially shaded spot with slightly moist, loamy, and humus-rich soil will suit it best in your garden. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you simply need to transplant into a flowerbed. There, it will become a valuable element early in the spring thanks to its early sprouting green leaves. The flowers themselves then enter the scene in May and June. Although it is a short-lived perennial, it reliably self-seeds in a suitable location, so you definitely won't lose it in your garden. Columbine flowers act as a great attraction for bees and bumblebees, and the entire plant is absolutely low-maintenance, making it easy to grow even for beginners. It does not require support and can withstand very severe frosts dropping below thirty degrees. For cutting, it is best to choose freshly opened blooms, and they will last about seven days in a vase. Since the plant is not suitable for drying, it will bring you joy primarily outdoors in the garden or in the aforementioned spring vases. During the season, just occasionally check if it is bothered by aphids or powdery mildew; otherwise, it needs no special attention. The 'Black Barlow' variety catches the eye with double flowers in an unconventional shade of very dark purple. They look fantastic both in the flowerbed and in bouquets.
