Daffodils of the 'Delnashaugh' variety will please even complete beginners, as growing them is truly easy and requires no complex procedures. For these beautiful double-flowered bulbs, choose a spot in the garden that receives direct sun; alternatively, they will handle partial shade without any problems. They will thrive best in well-draining, loamy, and humus-rich soil, which will provide enough nutrients. If you have rather heavy clay soil in your flowerbed, be sure to lighten it beforehand by adding sand or mature compost so that water does not unnecessarily pool near the bulbs and you can prevent them from rotting. Until you are ready for the autumn planting, store the bulbs in a dry, well-ventilated, cool, and dark place so they do not start sprouting prematurely and lose their vitality. The ideal time for planting large bulbs directly into outdoor soil occurs in autumn, specifically during the months of September, October, and November. As the days begin to shorten, temperatures drop, and the soil is not yet frozen, you can happily get to work. Plant the bulbs at a depth of 15 to 20 centimeters, ensuring that the tip of the bulb always points upward. To create a rich and natural spring effect, we recommend maintaining a spacing of roughly 10 to 15 centimeters between individual plants, which corresponds to approximately fifty bulbs per square meter. After careful planting, water the bed thoroughly so the bulbs gain the necessary moisture and can safely root before the first hard frosts arrive. During the intensive spring growth and the period of full bloom, i.e., primarily in April and May, keep the soil in the bed moderately moist. Daffodils require only moderate watering, so be careful to avoid unnecessary waterlogging, which is rather harmful to the plants. Since these plants have very strong stems reaching a height of 30 to 50 centimeters, they require no support at all during their growth and do not need to be pinched. Moreover, they are excellent cut flowers, so you can calmly take their peach-white, delicately fragrant blossoms home to a vase. Once the daffodils in the bed have completely finished blooming, the most important phase for their future success begins. It is absolutely essential to allow their green leaves to naturally turn yellow and dry out. Never cut them prematurely just because they no longer look aesthetically pleasing, because the bulb draws important nutrients for successful overwintering and rich blooming in the following year from these very leaves. The 'Delnashaugh' daffodil is a very reliable and highly frost-hardy perennial that can handle even very heavy frosts without any problems, down to -34 °C.
