Pokud hledáte nenáročnou, ale vizuálně úchvatnou jarní cibulovinu, narcis 'Sir Winston Churchill' je trefou do černého. Tyto kvalitní velké cibule nadchnou i pěstitele začátečníky. Do doby, než je uložíte do země, je ponechte na suchém a chladném místě, aby nezačaly předčasně rašit nebo plesnivět. Samotnou výsadbu si naplánujte na podzimní měsíce od září do listopadu. Základem úspěchu je správná příprava půdy a volba stanoviště.
Základní pravidla pro úspěšnou výsadbu a růst:
- Stanoviště a půda: Narcisy milují slunce i polostín. Půda musí být hlinitá, humózní a především dobře propustná.
- Hloubka a spon: Cibule sázejte do hloubky 10 až 15 centimetrů. Stejný odstup (10 až 15 cm) zachovejte i mezi jednotlivými cibulemi.
- Zálivka a choroby: Během rašení a kvetení udržujte půdu mírně vlhkou. Vyhýbejte se ale stojaté vodě, která u cibulí podporuje vznik fusariové hniloby.
Z hlediska další péče je tento kultivar prakticky bezúdržbový. Díky silným stonkům o výšce 40 až 50 centimetrů rostliny nepotřebují žádnou oporu a výborně se hodí k řezu do váz. Narcisy se v žádné fázi růstu nezaštipují. Jakmile v dubnu a květnu narcisy odkvetou a přilákají první jarní opylovače, můžete z estetických důvodů odstranit pouze suché květy, ale zelené listy nechte bezpodmínečně na místě.
Zazimování této trvalky je naprosto bezstarostné. Jde o extrémně otužilou rostlinu s mrazuvzdorností až do -34 °C. Zelené listy ponechte na záhonu tak dlouho, dokud samy přirozeně neuschnou. Cibule si z nich potřebuje natáhnout zásoby energie na přežití zimy a na tvorbu bohatých květů v příštím roce. Jakmile listy na přelomu jara a léta zcela zežloutnou, můžete je opatrně odstranit a cibule nechat bezpečně odpočívat v půdě až do dalšího jara.
