Once the healthy bulbs of this visually unique daffodil arrive in your package, they are immediately ready for your autumn planting. The ideal time for planting bulbs in open soil is roughly from September to the end of November. If you cannot get to the actual planting immediately upon delivery, store the bulbs in a sufficiently dry, dark, and cool place. Proper storage will ensure they do not start sprouting prematurely or becoming moldy. For final planting, carefully select a location in the garden that receives plenty of direct sunlight during the day, or it can also tolerate partial light shade. These daffodils strictly require reliably well-drained, slightly loamy soil rich in natural humus. Place the individual bulbs into the excavated holes with the tip facing up, quite deep at a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters. The manufacturer-recommended spacing for this variety is also 10 to 15 centimeters. This density will conveniently allow you to create a beautifully continuous stand that will literally light up every garden in the spring.
During the active growing season, especially in spring when the plant forms leaves and buds, ensure regular but moderate watering. The Colblanc daffodil appreciates slightly moister soil for its optimal development, but it is absolutely crucial that water never stands permanently in the bed. Retained water could quickly cause the planted bulbs to rot. When the daffodils bloom from March to May with their creamy white and strongly fragrant flowers, do not hesitate to cut them for vases. They are perfect for floral arrangements and wedding bouquets. After the flowering is over, an important phase of care begins. While you can cut off the faded stems immediately, leave all the leaves on the plant to grow freely and turn yellow naturally. Thanks to them, the plant continuously collects energy and stores nutrients back into the bulb so that it has enough strength for rich flowering in the following year.
This daffodil cultivar is an extremely long-lived perennial that will delight you with its extreme frost resistance. The plant reliably withstands even hard frosts down to -30 °C. In practice, this means that the bulbs stay perfectly safe in the bed over winter and require no covering with leaves or branches at all. Even though cultivation is undemanding and even a beginner can handle it, it is important to check the health status of the plants occasionally. Increased soil moisture or poorly drained soil can invite fungal diseases, such as fusarium rot or grey mold (Botrytis cinerea). Occasionally, a mosaic virus may appear, which manifests as striking deformations and light spots on the leaves. Therefore, the basis for the prevention and health of your daffodils is the correct choice of a sunny location with perfectly well-drained soil. Thanks to this, these beautiful flowers will bring immense joy to you and useful pollinators for many years to come.
