Narcissus
The 'Shrike' daffodil is an absolutely ideal choice for beginner gardeners, as it requires no complex care. We recommend storing it in a dry, cool, and dark place until planting. The actual planting takes place in the autumn, ideally during September, October, or November, so that the bulbs have time to root well before the arrival of frosts. For daffodils, choose a sunny location or light shade and ensure the soil is sufficiently well-drained. Plant the bulbs at a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters and keep a spacing of approximately 5 to 10 centimeters between them. If you are planning a large-scale planting, count on a consumption of about fifty bulbs per square meter.
During the spring months, when the daffodils begin to sprout and grow to their usual height of 35 to 45 centimeters, it is important to provide them with moderate watering. The soil should be slightly moist but never permanently waterlogged, which could cause the bulbs to rot. When the beautiful white-apricot flowers appear in April and May, you can freely cut them for spring bouquets—it will not harm the plant in any way, and the strong stems can do without artificial support. Furthermore, thanks to their intense scent, they will reliably attract the first bees and other useful pollinators to your garden.
After flowering, it is key to leave the green leaves to turn yellow and dry out naturally. The green matter acts as a solar panel and helps the bulb draw enough nutrients for the next season. No pinching or other special maintenance is necessary. This daffodil boasts extraordinary health and does not suffer from common diseases. A huge advantage is also its extreme frost resistance down to -34 °C. The bulbs thus remain in the ground all year round, require absolutely no special winter protection, and will delight you with their fluffy flowers again next spring.
The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.
