Aveyron tulips are an ideal choice even for complete beginners who want to enrich their garden with magnificent spring flowers. They thrive best in a sunny location or partial shade, where their pastel pink color with light petal edges stands out. The right soil is essential for them; it should be loamy, sufficiently humus-rich, and above all, well-drained. Under no circumstances can the bulbs tolerate heavy and waterlogged soil, which often leads to rotting. Because you will receive the largest, premium-sized bulbs of 12/+, you can look forward to truly strong, robust, and healthy plants. Before planting, keep the bulbs in a dry, dark, and cool place with good air circulation so they do not start sprouting prematurely or become moldy.
Planting takes place exclusively in autumn, ideally in the months of September, October, or November, when the soil is no longer overheated from the summer period. Always plant these bulbs with the tip facing up to a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters. Maintain the exact same distance, i.e., 10 to 15 centimeters, as the spacing between individual plants in a row. If you are planning a dense, mass planting in a bed, count on using about 100 bulbs per square meter. Immediately after planting, water the soil slightly so the bulbs can take root well before winter arrives. During the entire autumn and winter, keep watering to an absolute minimum; normal natural precipitation is quite enough for their healthy development.
In the spring, when the first strikingly light green leaves begin to appear, you can lightly work some mature compost or special bulb fertilizer into the soil. The Aveyron tulip blooms from April to May with beautiful fragrant flowers, reaches a height of 40 to 50 centimeters, and the plants require no support or pinching. They are absolutely excellent for cutting into vases and wedding floristry. After flowering, it is absolutely crucial to let the leaves naturally turn yellow and dry out; the bulb draws vital nutrients from them for the next season. It is a short-lived perennial with extreme frost resistance down to -40 °C, so it will overwinter in the ground without any problems. Keep the bed clean and well-drained to successfully prevent fusarium rot, grey mold, or mosaic virus.
