Growing the double-flowered 'Angélique' tulip is very easy, and even complete beginners can take it on without worry. These premium large bulbs (size 12/+) guarantee that strong and vital plants will grow in the spring. The key to success is choosing the right location. Tulips thrive best in full sun or light shade, where they will have enough light to unfold their wonderful pastel-colored flowers. Well-drained, sandy-loamy, and sufficiently humus-rich soil is also essential. Before planting, we recommend storing the bulbs in a cool, dry, and dark place so they do not start sprouting prematurely. Planting takes place exclusively in the autumn, ideally from September to November, when the soil is no longer too overheated. Place the bulbs in the ground, tip side up, at a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters. As this variety is suitable for group plantings, maintain spacing of approximately 10 to 15 centimeters between individual bulbs, which corresponds to a density of 60 to 80 plants per square meter. These bulbs are not demanding in terms of watering; moderate moisture is sufficient. Conversely, waterlogging is highly undesirable as it can quickly lead to the development of fungal diseases, such as Fusarium or grey mold. During the spring months of April and May, when the tulips grow to a height of 30 to 45 centimeters and bloom profusely, they do not need any support or pinching. They have naturally sturdy stems. If you are growing 'Angélique' for cutting into a vase, cut the stems when the buds are fully colored but still slightly closed. After flowering, leave the leaves on the bed to dry naturally so that nutrients can return to the bulb. As it is a short-lived perennial with extreme frost resistance down to -40 °C, the bulbs will survive the winter in the soil without any problems and without the need for complex winter protection. Just check the health of the plants regularly to detect any potential mosaic virus in time.
