Sázet atraktivní tulipán Sugar Crystal zvládne i naprostý začátečník, protože na péči není vůbec náročný. Těmto cibulovinám se naprosto nejlépe daří na teplém a slunném stanovišti, nicméně bez problémů snesou i mírný polostín pod vyššími stromy či keři, které na jaře ještě nejsou plně olistěné. Zásadní je pro ně dobře propustná a kvalitní humózní půda. Cibule vyloženě nesnášejí zimní a jarní přemokření, které je může nenávratně zničit. Proto pokud máte na zahradě těžkou jílovitou zeminu, je nezbytné před výsadbou na dno výsadbové jamky přidat dostatečnou vrstvu hrubého písku nebo drobného štěrku jako drenáž. Tímto jednoduchým krokem spolehlivě předejdete případnému uhnívání cibulí během vlhkých zimních a časně jarních měsíců a zajistíte jim ideální start do nové sezóny.
Samotná výsadba probíhá výhradně v podzimních měsících, ideálně od září do konce listopadu, tedy v době, dokud zahradní půda ještě nepromrzne. Díky tomu, že obdržíte kvalitní velké cibule velikosti 12/+, máte záruku opravdu silného a vitálního růstu. Cibule opatrně vkládejte do připravené půdy do hloubky 10 až 15 centimetrů. Stejnou vzdálenost, tedy zhruba 10 až 15 centimetrů, pečlivě dodržujte také jako rozestup mezi jednotlivými rostlinami. Aby tyto plnokvěté tulipány ve vaší jarní zahradě opravdu maximálně vynikly, doporučujeme je sázet spíše do hustších a větších skupin. Na jeden metr čtvereční se zcela běžně vejde 50 až 70 cibulí, které po vyrašení a rozkvetení vytvoří naprosto úchvatný starorůžový koberec se světlejšími okraji, jenž rozzáří každý kout.
Během jarního růstu a následného kvetení v průběhu dubna a května udržujte zálivku spíše mírnou, zalévejte jen tehdy, když je půda suchá. Tento nádherný druh dorůstá do výšky 30 až 45 centimetrů a tvoří velmi pevné stonky, díky kterým je naprosto ideální k jarnímu řezu do váz. Jakmile těžké květy zcela odkvetou, rostliny v žádném případě nezaštipujte. Pouze odstraňte zbytky květů, aby se rostlina nevysilovala tvorbou semen, a ponechte zelené listy na záhonu, dokud zcela přirozeně nezežloutnou a nezaschnou. Cibule si díky tomuto důležitému procesu stáhnou zpět všechny potřebné živiny pro úspěšný růst v další sezóně. Jde totiž o krátkověkou trvalku a s vynikající mrazuvzdorností až do -40 °C spolehlivě přežije zimní období zcela bez úhony přímo venku na záhonu.
I když je pěstování poměrně bezstarostné, při plánování záhonů si dejte dobrý pozor na několik běžných pěstebních rizik a škůdců. Vůbec největším nepřítelem cibulí uschovaných přes zimu v půdě je hraboš polní, který je s oblibou vyhledává. Z tohoto důvodu se vždy vyplatí cibule vysazovat do speciálních plastových nebo drátěných košíčků, jež hlodavce spolehlivě odradí. Z houbových a virových chorob se u tulipánů občas objevuje nepříjemná šedá hniloba (Botrytis cinerea) a zrádný virus mozaiky. Účinnou prevencí je vždy dostatečný rozestup mezi rostlinami pro správné proudění vzduchu, zamezení přílišné trvalé vlhkosti kolem krčků a také nezbytná a pravidelná dezinfekce zahradnických nůžek ve chvíli, kdy si tyto překrásné květy stříháte domů pro radost do vázy.
