Salmon Impression tulips are an ideal choice even for complete beginners who want to brighten up their garden early after winter. They thrive best in a fully sunny or partially shaded location with well-drained soil. Drainage is absolutely crucial, because in heavy and constantly waterlogged soil, the bulbs could start rotting very quickly. If you have soil that is too dense, do not hesitate to incorporate sand into it before planting. Before planting itself, store the bulbs in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated place so they do not sprout prematurely or start to get moldy. Once the soil temperature drops in autumn, usually during the months of September, October, and November, you can safely start planting.
Plant the bulbs at a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters, always with the tip facing up. The recommended spacing, i.e., the distance between individual plants, is 5 to 15 centimeters. If you are planning a really lush flowerbed, you can count on planting up to a hundred bulbs per square meter. After planting, water them slightly, but remember that tulips generally require lower watering and cannot stand in water.
These magnificent tulips bloom during April and May and reach a height of 50 to 60 centimeters. Thanks to their exceptionally strong stems, they need absolutely no support and do not bend even in stronger spring winds. They are absolutely fantastic for cutting for vases, where they stay fresh for a very long time. After flowering, let the green leaves turn yellow and dry out naturally so that all important nutrients are drawn back into the bulb for a successful next season. Although the tulip is a short-lived perennial, it possesses extreme frost resistance down to -40 °C. The bulbs can thus safely remain in the flowerbed through the winter and do not require any special overwintering at all.
