The 'Super Parrot' tulip is an absolutely ideal choice even for beginner gardeners, as it requires practically no complex care and is easy to grow. For the successful and lush growth of these bulbs, choose a suitable sunny location or at least a bright partial shade, where the plant will receive enough light. The basis for success is very high-quality, humus-rich, and loamy soil, which must be perfectly permeable. If you have rather heavy, clayey, and waterlogged soil in your garden, we strongly recommend adding a little coarser sand or fine gravel to the bottom of each planting hole. This simple drainage will effectively prevent the bulbs from rotting, as they strictly do not tolerate permanent waterlogging and could quickly die. During the vegetation period, moderate watering is fully sufficient; try to keep the soil slightly and evenly moist, but it must never be muddy for long periods.
The planting itself takes place exclusively in the autumn, ideally from September to the end of November, but always fundamentally earlier than the soil freezes permanently. Before you get started with planting, always store these largest supplied bulbs (size 12/+) in a dry, dark, and sufficiently cool place with good air circulation to prevent them from starting to sprout prematurely or becoming moldy. Plant them always with the tip pointing directly upwards at a depth of roughly 10 to 15 centimeters. Carefully maintain a spacing of 10 to 15 centimeters between individual bulbs. If you are planning to create a more continuous flowering area, count on a consumption of 60 to 80 pieces per square meter. Immediately after planting, water the bulbs sufficiently so that the soil adheres well to the emerging roots. Thanks to excellent frost resistance down to -34 °C, they will survive the winter directly in the soil, so they do not need any special wintering at all.
During April and May, when this tulip reaches a height of 30 to 45 centimeters and blooms richly, it does not need any additional stem support or any pinching. You can cut the flowers in white-green lime tones into a vase without worry, where they will last for a very long time and their non-traditional shapes will stand out fantastically. Because it is a short-lived perennial, it is essential to leave all the leaves in the bed to turn yellow and dry out naturally after flowering. The plant draws nutrients from them back into the bulb for rich flowering in the next season.
The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.
