Cultivation
Afrikánu se nejlépe daří na lehké písčité až hlinité půdě, v těžkých jílovitých půdách mu to moc nepůjde. Potřebuje i dost organického materiálu. Před výsadbou tedy zapracujte do záhonu dobře vyzrálý hnůj, nebo kompost. Vyberte mu i místo, které není podmáčené. Afrikány během vegetace spotřebují velké množství dusíku z půdy, nezapomínejte ho tedy doplňovat, např. ve formě slepičinců.
VÝSEV
Nyní k samotnému výsevu. Afrikán můžete nasít do menšího sadbovače a sazeničky následně sázet do záhonu. Případně i výsít do výsevní misky, přepikýrovat do sadbovače a opět vzrostlé sazeničky sázet do záhonu. V obou případech sejeme semena afrikánu na povrch substrátu a lehce zasypeme vermikulitem. Afrikán není mrazuvzdorný, proto s jeho přesazením počkejte až po posledních mrazech. Po přesazení afrikán pokvete za 6 - 9 týdnů.
Afrikán můžete pěstovat dvěma způsoby — jednostonkově, tzn. jedna rostlinka vytvoří jeden stonek, který sklidíte a dáte si ho do vázy. V takovém případě můžete na 1 m2 vysadit větší množství rostlin (až 48).
Druhý způsob pěstování je, že zaštípnete hlavní stonek (terminál) a v tu chvíli se afrikán větví a vytváří košatější rostliny. U tohoto způsobu pěstování doporučujeme 24 rostlin na m2, což vychází na spon 20 cm od sebe. Po zaštípnutí jsou rostliny robustnější a nepotřebují oporu, proto doporučujeme spíše tento způsob pěstování.
SKLIZEŇ
Pokud pěstujete afrikán jako řezanou květinu, po sklizni ho můžete skladovat na sucho, nebo ve vodě, v teplotě 2 - 5 °C. Ve váze vydrží 10 dní.
