We recommend storing 'Iccon' tulips in a dry, cool, and dark place before planting. The key to successful cultivation is choosing the right location. These beautifully fragrant tulips will thrive best in direct sunlight or partial shade. Well-draining, sandy, and sufficiently humus-rich soil is very important. The bulbs cannot tolerate constant waterlogging at all, so steer clear of areas where water sits after rain.
Planting should be done exclusively in the autumn, with the ideal period being from September until the end of November, before the ground freezes. Plant the bulbs carefully with the pointed end facing up at a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters. To create a rich and visually stunning effect in your flowerbed, maintain a spacing of 10 to 15 centimeters, which corresponds to roughly fifty to seventy bulbs per square meter. These tulips do not need any artificial support or ongoing pruning, as they naturally have very strong and stable stems that easily reach a final height of thirty to forty-five centimeters.
During spring growth and the subsequent flowering in April and May, maintain only moderate soil moisture. As soon as the full, vibrant red-orange flowers begin to fade, you can cut them off. However, you can also cut them earlier to create bouquets for a vase, where they fit perfectly thanks to their wonderful and very intense fragrance. Always leave the green leaves on the flowerbed to turn yellow naturally and dry out completely. The bulbs draw vital nutrients from them for flowering in the next season. As this is a short-lived perennial, for long-term abundant flowering, we recommend removing the bulbs after the leaves wither in summer, storing them in a dry place, and replanting them in the flowerbed in the autumn.
