Choosing the right location and autumn planting are the keys to successful cultivation. 'Pink Ardour' tulips thrive best in a spot that offers plenty of sunshine or light partial shade. They require loose, loamy soil with plenty of humus and, above all, excellent drainage. Plant the bulbs exclusively in the autumn, i.e., from September to the end of November. Until then, keep the delivered bulbs in a dry and cool place, ideally in a paper bag or a breathable crate. To achieve a truly breathtaking carpet of fuchsia-pink flowers, place them 10 to 15 centimeters apart. This way, you will use 50 to 70 bulbs per square meter.
Spring care is not demanding, and any beginner gardener can handle it. As soon as the first green leaves start to emerge in spring, ensure adequate watering. Tulips like moderate moisture, so provide them with water during dry spring periods, but avoid unnecessary overwatering. In April and May, you can look forward to flowers that sprout on sturdy stems 30 to 45 centimeters tall. The plant does not need any support or pruning; it grows very compactly and stably. This cultivar is an excellent choice for cutting, so don't be afraid to cut the flowers for vases or spring arrangements, where their rich color will stand out.
Preparation for the next season begins as soon as the last petals wither. Under no circumstances should you cut off the green leaves; the plant needs to draw energy from them back into the bulb for the next year. This is a typical short-lived perennial. Although it is extremely frost-resistant and will survive temperatures down to -34 °C without any winter protection, its ability to bloom abundantly may weaken after a few years. Therefore, it is recommended to remove the bulbs over the summer, let them rest in a dry place, and plant them again in the autumn.
