Growing the 'Zantucharme' tulip is suitable even for complete beginners because it does not require any complicated care. The ideal time for planting is from September to November, before the soil freezes. If you cannot plant them immediately, store them temporarily in a dry and cool place. Choose a sunny or semi-shaded location for them with humus-rich, loamy, and well-drained soil. Plant the bulbs at a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters and maintain a spacing of 10 to 15 centimeters apart. To achieve a rich color effect, we recommend group planting, where about one hundred bulbs can fit per square meter. Given that field voles like to feed on bulbs, it is very practical to plant bulbs directly in special planting baskets, which will reliably protect them from these pests.
During the spring season, when the tulips grow to a height of 30 to 45 centimeters in April and May, keep watering moderate. The plant has very strong stems, so it does not require any support or pinching. These fragrant, peach-orange flowers are absolutely ideal for cutting into a vase, where they stay fresh for a long time and retain their shape. After flowering, it is essential to let the dark green leaves naturally turn yellow and dry out. Thanks to this, the bulbs will draw back all the nutrients needed for the next year.
