Growing the 'Marvel Parrot' tulip is a breeze, even for a complete beginner. Bulbs should always be planted in the fall, ideally from September to November, before the soil freezes permanently. If you are not planting the bulbs immediately upon delivery, store them in a dry, cool, and dark place to prevent premature sprouting or mold. For successful growth and rich flowering, choose a sunny or semi-shaded spot in your garden. The soil should be loamy, rich in humus, and, above all, very well-drained, as bulbs can rot in heavy, waterlogged soil. Since you will receive the largest premium bulbs (size 12/+), you can look forward to truly strong and healthy plants in the spring.
The planting process itself is very simple. Place the bulbs in prepared soil at a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters, always with the tip pointing up. Maintain a spacing of 10 to 15 centimeters between individual plants, which corresponds to roughly 50 to 100 bulbs per square meter if you are planning a larger flowerbed. In the spring, usually during April and May, the tulip will reward you with fantastic, vibrant pink, fringed blooms. They grow on sturdy stems 40 to 50 centimeters tall, which require no external support. During the growing season, keep the soil slightly moist; watering should be regular, but take care not to overwater the plants.
This cultivar is considered a short-lived perennial, meaning you can enjoy it for several seasons with proper care. Do not pinch the plant during growth. If you want to enjoy the vibrant pink flowers at home, cut the stems when the buds are fully colored but not yet open. After flowering, let the fresh green leaves naturally turn yellow and wither. From an aesthetic point of view, you can remove only the dead flower head. Proper spacing and airflow help prevent diseases such as gray mold or mosaic virus. Overwintering requires no effort—the bulbs are frost-hardy down to -40 °C, so they reliably overwinter directly in the soil.
