Základem úspěchu jsou kvalitní, velké cibule, které sázíme výhradně během podzimních měsíců, tedy v září, říjnu nebo listopadu. Než se dostanete k samotnému sázení, uchovávejte cibule v suchu a temnu, abyste zabránili předčasnému rašení. Zvolte pro ně slunné nebo polostinné místo s hlinitou, na živiny bohatou půdou. Klíčová je propustnost zeminy – v těžké a trvale zamokřené půdě by cibule mohly začít hnít. Pokud máte na zahradě spíše jílovitou půdu, doporučujeme na dno sázecí jamky přidat trochu písku nebo drobného štěrku pro lepší odvodnění.
Cibule vkládejte do půdy vždy širší částí dolů a úzkou špičkou nahoru, a to do hloubky 10 až 15 cm. Pro dosažení co nejlepšího vizuálního efektu sázejte cibule do menších či větších skupinek se sponem 10 až 15 cm. Na jeden metr čtvereční se jich pohodlně vejde 40 až 60, což vytvoří nádhernou celistvou plochu. Rostlina je plně mrazuvzdorná až do -34 °C, takže cibule zůstávají v zemi celoročně a na zimu je není třeba nijak chránit mulčem ani vykopávat. Jakmile je na podzim zasadíte a mírně zalijete, příroda už se o zbytek postará zcela sama.
Když v březnu a dubnu vyraší pevné stonky vysoké 35 až 45 cm, dbejte pouze na to, aby v případě suchého jara měly rostliny přiměřenou zálivku. Květy s překrásnou vůní nejen že lákají první jarní opylovače, ale jsou přímo stvořené k řezu. Pokud si chcete narcisy užít i doma ve váze, řežte je ve chvíli, kdy se poupata teprve začínají otevírat. Velkou výhodou tohoto druhu je jeho vynikající zdravotní stav, rostliny jsou totiž zcela bez chorob. Po odkvětu pamatujte na jediné pravidlo: zelené listy nechte na záhonu přirozeně zavadnout a zaschnout. Díky tomu cibule načerpá důležitou sílu a příští jaro vykvete ještě bohatěji.
