Growing the 'Misty Glen' daffodil is very easy, and even an absolute beginner can handle it with ease. The ideal time for planting them in a flower bed is during the autumn months, specifically September, October, or November, before the arrival of the first lasting frosts. For this fragrant spring pleasure, choose a sunny location or a pleasant partial shade. They will thrive best in loamy, humus-rich, and above all, well-drained soil. Permeability is key, as bulbs could start to rot in waterlogged soil.
Since you will receive premium and sufficiently large bulbs, it is important to give them the right amount of space. Dig holes 10 to 15 cm deep and always place the bulbs with the tip facing upwards, from which green leaves will subsequently grow. To ensure your spring flower bed is truly rich, maintain a spacing of 10 to 15 cm between individual plants. For area planting, count on roughly 40 to 60 bulbs per square meter. Immediately after planting, press the soil down slightly and water thoroughly, which will help the bulbs establish a strong root system before the soil freezes in winter.
During spring, when the daffodils are actively growing and blooming in April and May, keep the soil moderately moist. They do not require excessive watering; normal spring moisture is sufficient. A great advantage of this variety is its excellent health—the plant does not suffer from any common diseases, so you can do without the worries of chemical sprays. The pure white flowers on sturdy stems growing to a height of 35 to 45 cm are absolutely ideal for cutting into a vase, where they will delight you with their subtle fragrance. In the garden, they also reliably attract bees and other useful pollinators.
After flowering, an important yet undemanding phase of care follows. Carefully remove or cut off faded flowers so the plant does not exhaust itself by forming seeds. However, do not shorten or remove the green leaves under any circumstances. Leave them in the flower bed to naturally turn yellow and dry out. It is from the leaves that the bulb draws back important nutrients for rich flowering in the next year. The 'Misty Glen' daffodil is a fully frost-resistant perennial that can handle extreme winter temperatures down to -34 °C without problems. There is no need to dig up the bulbs for the winter; just leave them in the ground, where they will gradually multiply and grow stronger.
